About The Position

The Development Director plans and executes strategic efforts for fundraising and outreach to support the financial needs and growth of the community. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. The Development Director designs and implements comprehensive fundraising strategies to meet the financial goals of the community, including event sponsorship, capital campaigns, major gift cultivation, and annual and planned giving programs (bequests, trusts, estate gifts). They build, cultivate, and maintain relationships with residents, families, board members, staff members, donors, and community partners. The role serves as a community ambassador to build partnerships and collaborate with local businesses, community groups, government leaders, and other organizations to enhance awareness, visibility, generate support, and promote the community’s mission and values. The Director ensures donors and sponsors are recognized, appreciated, and informed about how their contributions are being used. They identify, research, and apply for grants, providing compelling grant proposals and reports, ensuring compliance with all requirements. The position develops and manages the department’s budget, ensuring fundraising efforts are cost-effective and aligned with the organization’s financial goals. They work to develop long-term sustainable funding strategies that create a diverse funding base through a mix of fundraising activities, donations, and grants, to ensure the community’s growth and success. The Director maintains CRM/database and other related software platforms, tracks fundraising metrics, and provides regular updates on fundraising and outreach efforts to the Chief Financial Officer. They participate in executive leadership team meetings and support community-wide and division/department efforts. Collaboration with the Marketing/Communication Director on donor messaging, case statement and impact reports, and community newsletter and communications is also a key part of the role. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Strong organizational, and follow-up skills
  • Ability to work and make good decisions independently
  • Proficient computer skills, experience working with CRM systems
  • Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends for events and appointments
  • Minimum of 5 years of fundraising, marketing, or communications experience, preferably in senior living, hospitality, or healthcare
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
  • Knowledge of planned giving and experience with major gifts and campaigns preferred
