About The Position

The Director of Dental Services is responsible for the management, administration, and supervision of all Dental services within the health center. This role involves providing direct, high-quality patient care in their respective specialty, collaborating effectively with other providers and staff for team-based medical care, and representing the health center in the community. The Director also develops dental health education programs under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO). This position directly supervises 17-20 employees within the Dental Services department and is responsible for all aspects of employee management, including interviewing, hiring, training, performance appraisal, and conflict resolution. The Director also supervises students during their rotations and the School-Based Health Center Dental services.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of dentistry.
  • Maintain appropriate licenses to practice dentistry in the State of South Carolina.
  • Minimum of three years of practice as a general dentist.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Personal computer skills including proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Possess a valid South Carolina driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Maintain current CPR certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Practice in an FQHC setting preferred.
  • At least three years' experience in a clinical, academic, or administrative leadership position, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative and management direction for dental services at all locations, including on-site offices, school-based offices, and mobile units.
  • Ensure adherence to all federal and state health regulations.
  • Develop and enforce protocols and workflows for the department across all sites.
  • Serve as the direct supervisor for all dentists, hygienists, and dental assistants, including conducting performance reviews and recommending disciplinary actions.
  • Ensure all new hires are trained in dental procedures, protocols, and electronic medical record recording.
  • Provide direct dental services to patients of all age groups, documenting diagnoses and treatments.
  • Participate in the development and adherence to clinical protocols, quality assessment, and quality improvement procedures.
  • Develop protocols to maximize reimbursement from third-party payers.
  • Meet with the CMO monthly to provide progress reports and departmental updates.
  • Conduct regular department meetings.
  • Participate in leadership team developmental trainings and staff meetings.
  • Assist in grant proposal preparation and grant management as needed.
  • Perform all essential duties of a staff dentist.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
  • Supervise students during their rotation through the dental clinic.
  • Supervise School-Based Health Center Dental services.
