Director of Data and AI

As the Director of Data and AI at Public, you will be responsible for managing a team of Data Analytics Engineers and driving all data-related initiatives. Your role will involve building efficient data processing systems and modeling data for analytics. You will collaborate with various teams to execute complex projects aligned with business goals and product roadmap. Additionally, you will oversee and manage data infrastructure, processes, and tools. This role is preferably based in New York City.

Lead a team of high performing Data Analytics Engineers, ensuring proper execution of functions; foster a positive team culture and set data management standards and best practices

Develop an in-depth understanding of our business goals, priorities, and success metrics in order to help set business strategy, build data solutions for complex problems, and inform decision-making

Work within large datasets to conduct analyses – that includes: data science, exploratory data analysis, and

Build systems that process data efficiently and model that data to enable analytics

Collaborate closely with Engineering, Product, Operations, Marketing, and Finance teams to execute complex projects in alignment with business goals and product roadmap

Serve as a strategic thought partner to the leadership team

Oversee and manage all data infrastructure, processes, and tools

• 8+ years of experience in algorithmic engineering, data science, or machine learning
• 5+ years of experience in people management and scaling teams
• Strong technical domain knowledge, including mastery of at least one programming language and SQL
• Passion for artificial intelligence and machine learning
• Experience in data analysis, exploratory data analysis, and model development
• Ability to communicate results and insights to leadership
• Experience in building and managing advanced reporting, dashboards, data models, and tools
• Proficiency in ETL technologies for data extraction, manipulation, cleansing, and synthesis
• Ability to foster a positive team culture and set data management standards and best practices

8+ years of experience in algorithmic engineering, data science, or machine learning

5+ years in people management and scaling teams

Strong technical domain knowledge

Passion for artificial intelligence and machine learning

Experience working with Generative AI (GenAI)

Ability to collect data from internal and external systems

Design data storage structures

Build automated data pipelines

Strong understanding of data modeling principles

Experience with modern data platforms

Ability to push the boundaries of analytical insights

Expertise with AWS, Python, Pyspark, Fivetran, Snowflake, DBT, and Looker

Exceptional communication skills

High EQ

Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment

Preferred: Experience with large-scale consumer products

Bonus: Advanced degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field
