About The Position

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Director of Compliance and Enforcement provides direction and oversight to the Pokagon Band Gaming Commission Compliance and Enforcement Department. The Director develops a high-performing team, establishes priorities, manages resources, promotes continuous improvement, and ensures the department fulfills its regulatory responsibilities while fostering a culture of professionalism, integrity, accountability, and customer service.

Requirements

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required.
Two (2) years of experience in a management/supervisor role or demonstrated leadership experience such as project leadership, team coordination, mentoring, or leading cross-functional initiatives may be considered in lieu of formal people-management or supervisory experience.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with people and function in a team environment.
Willingness and ability to learn gaming laws, regulations, and regulatory processes.
Excellent organizational skills.
Must perform assigned work in alignment with documented Commission processes and leadership-approved policies and procedures.
Knowledge, intellect, temperament, and flexibility to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Must adhere to the Commission policy prohibiting Commission employees from gambling or playing at Four Winds Casino or any licensed game or gaming device under the jurisdiction of the Pokagon Band Gaming Commission.
Must be able to handle requests in an empathetic and professional manner.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must be willing to promote goals and philosophies of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians.
Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to meet the minimum requirements regarding driving record to utilize Commission vehicles.
Strong delivery of positive service and good communication skills, both oral and written.
Submit to and successfully pass a background investigation.
Submit to and successfully pass drug testing as required by the Commission.
The ability to prioritize workloads.

Nice To Haves

Four (4) years of related professional experience interpreting, analyzing, and applying regulatory requirements is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

Lead, coach, mentor, direct, and supervise Compliance and Enforcement staff.
Recruit, develop, retain, and evaluate employees.
Develop departmental goals, work plans, budgets, and performance measures.
Create a collaborative, respectful, and accountable workplace culture.
Allocate resources and prioritize work to meet organizational objectives.
Review and approve inspections, investigations, reports, and recommendations.
Represent the Commission with stakeholders, law enforcement, regulators, and during hearings.
Establish, implement, evaluate the effectiveness, and maintain departmental policies, procedures, and training.
Identify operational risks and implement continuous improvements.
Prepare reports, presentations, and correspondence.
Execute all assigned work in alignment with documented Commission processes and policies and procedures approved by Commission leadership, using the current approved version of each applicable process, checklist, and task list.
Identify and report through designated channels in any instance where a documented process cannot be performed as written, so that the process or the practice can be corrected.
Ensure compliance and analyze investigative reports of violations of the Gaming Regulatory Act, the Gaming Regulations, the Liquor Control Codes, the Liquor Regulations, the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, National Indian Gaming Commission Minimum Internal Control Standards, Tribal-State Compacts(s), and other applicable laws and governing documents.
Assess casino compliance with all standards against Gaming Regulations, Gaming Regulatory Act, the Tribal-State Compact, and other applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
Produce written documents with clearly organized thoughts, using proper sentence constructions, punctuation, and grammar in a timely manner.
Serve as liaison between the Commission and representatives of Four Winds Casinos, Pokagon Government, the Tribal Police and other appropriate law enforcement officials.
Stay current on casino regulatory investigative techniques, principles and practices.
Testify during Commission hearings or civil proceedings on an as needed basis.
Perform other duties as assigned.
