Requirements

  • Passion for girl leadership and the Girl Scout mission, with a commitment to serving as a GSEP ambassador and modeling GSEP’s Operational Core Values.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred with 3–5 years of related experience, including demonstrated management or supervisory experience; Sandler sales training or similar training preferred.
  • Exceptional leadership and people-management skills, with the ability to lead, motivate, coach, and hold accountable a team of field-based staff while successfully collaborating with council teams, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Strong knowledge of local schools and communities, with the ability to identify and leverage opportunities to expand GSEP’s reach and membership; Spanish-speaking skills preferred.
  • Sales, recruitment, or community engagement experience preferred, with the ability to coach and support a results-oriented team in prospecting, cold outreach, relationship development, overcoming rejection, and converting opportunities into membership growth.
  • Strong verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to effectively articulate GSEP’s mission, goals, and priorities to staff, members, volunteers, girls, families, and community audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish short- and long-term goals, manage team performance, monitor progress, and take ownership of recruitment, membership, customer service, and other performance-related outcomes.
  • Highly proficient in using data to evaluate performance, identify trends and opportunities, make strategic decisions, and coach staff toward individual and team goals.
  • Strong organizational and project-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, anticipate next steps, and operate effectively with limited day-to-day oversight.
  • Strong problem-solving, conflict-resolution, and decision-making skills, demonstrating initiative, sound judgment, attention to detail, cultural sensitivity, and a calm, professional demeanor in challenging or high-pressure situations.
  • Strong customer service orientation, with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships ensuring staff consistently deliver a high-quality experience to members, volunteers, girls, families, and community partners.
  • Strong technology skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, with the ability to effectively utilize Salesforce and oversee staff adherence to established case management, opportunity management, and membership engagement processes.
  • Ability to understand, implement, and enforce council policies, procedures, confidentiality requirements, and established standard operating procedures, including GSEP’s prescribed methods of operation.
  • Experience planning, coordinating, and overseeing activities and events serving large and diverse groups, with the ability to work cross-functionally to achieve council-wide goals.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as necessary to support staff, recruitment activities, community engagement, and organizational priorities.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and proof of current automobile insurance required.
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 40 pounds and perform physical activities associated with packing, transporting, setting up, and unpacking equipment and materials.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Community Engagement team and oversee GSEP’s approach to strengthening and growing local communities of Girl Scouting, or Service Units.
  • Provide clear direction, training, coaching, and accountability for Community Engagement Specialists, ensuring consistent and effective engagement with Service Unit Managers and other key volunteers across the Council.
  • Establish clear expectations and consistent practices for how Community Engagement Specialists assess Service Unit needs, strengthen local leadership, identify challenges, and connect volunteers with the appropriate Council resources.
  • Use Service Unit health indicators, girl and volunteer growth and retention, Service Unit Manager satisfaction, and the quality of volunteer-facing events and experiences to evaluate effectiveness and identify areas requiring additional attention.
  • Ensure Community Engagement Specialists maintain strong relationships with schools, municipalities, community organizations, and other local partners that can strengthen Girl Scouting within their communities.
  • Work closely with Recruitment and Placement, Girl Experience, Training and Support, Marketing and Communications, Member Services, and other teams to ensure Service Units and volunteers receive coordinated support and that local needs and opportunities inform Council-wide strategies.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the Community Engagement team while driving a consistent Council-wide approach to Service Unit health, volunteer leadership, community engagement, and member and volunteer retention.
  • Use data and community insights to establish priorities, identify opportunities and challenges, and measure impact while strengthening relationships with Service Unit Managers, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Oversee volunteer leadership development and support, guide strategies that strengthen troop and Service Unit sustainability, manage team resources and performance, and collaborate across GSEP to ensure volunteers, girls, and families receive coordinated, high-quality support and experiences.
