About The Position

This is a full-time, non-exempt position, working primarily with children from birth to 5th grade and organizing and overseeing the planning and execution of worship services. This position is responsible for collaborating with the Associate Pastor in growing lifelong witnessing worshippers with servant hearts and creating a rich worship experience for worshippers of all ages.

Nice To Haves

  • Background or degree in education, child development, or children’s ministry strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage children’s ministries on Sunday mornings, all year round, communicating with staff, teachers, and volunteers as well as providing curriculum and supplies in a timely, organized fashion. This includes Sunday school programs and nursery care and worship bags.
  • Manage nursery care staff training and scheduling not just for Sundays, but when needed for all ministry programs.
  • Coordinate special children’s ministry events. This could include evenings and weekends.
  • Recruit and develop volunteers, in collaboration with the associate pastor, including managing the list of volunteers that have completed Safe Church training.
  • Assist in developing and implementing policies that ensure the safety of our children, staff, and volunteers.
  • Send weekly email updates to families and nurture relationships with children and their families.
  • Communicate children’s ministry on a regular basis through the church newsletter, social media posts, website, and worship preslides.
  • Develop systems of feedback for all major Children’s Ministry programs and events in an effort to analyze and improve systems already in place. This includes tracking attendance and reaching out to families who fall out of rhythm in connecting with the church.
  • In collaboration with the associate pastor, develop and coordinate Children’s Ministry calendar so that it connects with the overall vision of the church and the rhythm of children, youth, and family ministries.
  • Manage and be accountable for Children’s Ministry budget. This includes placing orders and also doing shopping when necessary.
  • Assist Associate Pastor in intentionally reaching out to Ascension Lutheran School students and families, including attending school chapel on a weekly basis. In conjunction with the associate pastor and school principal, lead a regular program for faith formation.
  • Make at least one weekly trip to the ECC for building family relationships and/or classroom projects with kids.
  • Coordinate and manage children’s ministries special summer programming, communicating with staff, teachers, and volunteers as well as providing curriculum and supplies in a timely, organized fashion.
