About The Position

The Intercontinental St. Paul Riverfront hotel is truly elegance along the Mississippi! Centrally located and set high above the Mississippi, our downtown hotel truly connects our guests with all St. Paul has to offer while we provide them with a luxurious stay. Our team members are loyal and dedicated, taking pride in providing our guests with a comfortable, memorable experience. We are seeking a DIRECTOR OF CATERING to join our incredible team! Our Director of Catering will train, supervise and working with our catering associates to solicit and book Banquet and Catering functions resulting in stellar planning, smooth execution, happy customers, loyal customers, profitability!

Requirements

  • Excellent hearing required for verbal interaction with guests and associates.
  • Excellent vision required for viewing set-ups.
  • Excellent speech communication skills required for verbal interaction with guests and associates.
  • Excellent comprehension and literacy required to develop marketing plan, create menus and programs, etc.
  • Able to perform the essential functions as outlined with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying - tables, chairs, boxes (50 lb. maximum) occasionally.
  • Bending/kneeling - taping down cords, skirting tables, picking up floor after function, occasionally.
  • Mobility - ability to service clients on a moments notice, variable distances.
  • Continuous standing - function observation, client site inspections (one hour minimum to four hours maximum).
  • Driving - distance varies for sales calls (approximately 20%).
  • High School Degree required
  • Previous Catering and Sales experience is required
  • Strong Follow up skills required
  • Strong knowledge of guest room sales
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills and must also possess excellent communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • 4 year College Degree Preferred
  • Knowledge of Twin Cities catering market is highly desirable

Responsibilities

  • Develop and conduct persuasive verbal sales presentations to prospective clients
  • Solicit new accounts and review previous banquet files to generate business.
  • Oversee service of group functions once they are in house.
  • Negotiate, prepare and write contracts and enter information into the automated sales system
  • Write banquet menus, memos and send out amenities for VIP guests.
  • Create special themes and menus
  • Review and revise Catering Department weekly event sheets and banquet event orders.
  • Formulate and make revisions to annual and monthly forecasts
  • Interview, hire, train, recommend performance evaluations, resolve problems, provide open communication and recommend discipline and/or termination when appropriate
  • Schedule and assign in detail specific duties to all associates under supervision for the efficient operation of the Catering Department, coverage of functions in accordance with productivity standards
  • Interact with clients to determine needs and direct staff accordingly.
  • Respond to telephone and walk-in inquiries of potential guests
  • Tour and Inspect banquet and meeting space on a daily basis, reporting necessary repairs
  • Participate in communication and professional organizations to maintain high visibility and promote sales.
  • Perform special projects and other responsibilities as assigned.
