About The Position

Reporting to the Senior Associate Athletics Director / Chief of Staff, the Director of Business Operations leads the athletics business office and directs financial and human resource operations for the department. The Director supervises the business operations graduate assistant, interns, and student workers; develops and manages department budgets and financial forecasts; oversees procurement, expense reporting, and ticket reconciliation processes; directs the hiring and exit process for department employees; leads strategic Athletic Department projects; and directs the Graduate Assistant program.

  • Proficient with personal computers, including the entire suite of Microsoft Office Applications and others as required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • An understanding of NCAA rules and regulations is required.
  • 1-2 years of administrative experience in athletic department or related area.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others.
  • Ability to successfully balance and manage multiple tasks in an active, fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent oral, written, and computer skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Business Administration or Sports Management is highly desirable.
  • Advanced Degree is preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of University policies and procedures is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise business operations graduate assistant, interns, and/or student workers, including delegating responsibilities, providing day-to-day guidance, and overseeing performance.
  • Develop and manage financial forecasts and budgets.
  • Strategically work with coaches and department heads to assist with budget preparation and ensuring alignment with overall athletic department budget development.
  • Lead operational strategy to improve efficiency and support departmental growth through researching and finding cost savings and efficiencies.
  • Process employee expense reports, purchase requisitions, and vendor invoices.
  • Prepare financial deposits and track documentation.
  • Provide guidance to staff on appropriate use and allocation of Purchasing Card transactions.
  • Assist with budget review and monthly reconciliation process.
  • Prepare and reconcile ticket deposits.
  • Provide budgetary executive-level analysis and recommendations to senior athletics leadership related to budget efficiency and financial forecasting.
  • Assist with human resource functions such as processing new hires and resignations.
  • Helping with on-boarding and off-boarding paperwork for employees.
  • Oversee the University Athletic Department’s Graduate Assistant (GA) program, which includes 19 departmental GA’s).
  • Directly supervise the Athletic Administrative Graduate Assistant, providing day-to-day guidance and performance management.
  • Direct staff and coaches in identifying, recruiting, and onboarding qualified GAs, while monitoring program budget and compliance.
  • Contribute to special projects and department-wide initiatives aimed at operational excellence.
  • Establish internal controls, compliance measures, and process improvements related to all functions of the athletic department, including but not limited to policy and procedure review and departmental policy education.
  • Oversee Staff Professional Development programming.
  • Take on additional fiscal or administrative duties as assigned, with flexibility to adapt to the evolving needs of the department and University.
