About The Position

Accelerate Change is seeking a Director of Audience Development to build and lead a new, cross-cutting capability focused on growing and understanding audiences across our ecosystem. This role sits at the intersection of content, strategy, and impact — helping us expand reach, deepen engagement, and strengthen how our work resonates with the people we aim to serve. This is a builder role. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable launching new ideas, analyzing what works, and translating insights into strategies that benefit partners, creators, and internal teams. We are less interested in candidates who have managed large teams and more interested in those who have built and grown things that people actually pay attention to. You should have strong opinions about what works on the internet — and be willing to change them when the data proves you wrong.

Requirements

  • 5+ years experience with key responsibilities: We’re looking for someone who has at least 5 years of experience growing nascent social media audiences. We define experience broadly. Candidates with backgrounds in audience development, digital media, content strategy, or related fields are encouraged to apply — as are those whose path doesn't fit neatly into those categories but who can demonstrate they've built audiences people actually care about. Equivalent demonstrated experience is weighted equally to credentialed background.

  • Growth-focused social audience scaling: Proven ability to grow and engage audiences on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, or similar platforms — not just manage existing ones.
  • Platform-native content insight: Strong instincts for platform-native content: you know why something works, not just that it does
  • Strong internal and external collaboration: Experience working with creators, freelancers, or distributed content teams
  • Strategic & hands-on: Ability to operate both strategically and tactically — comfortable building accounts yourself, especially at launch
  • Data-driven decision-making: Strong analytical skills: can translate performance data into clear insights and decisions
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Experience working cross-functionally and influencing without direct authority
  • Flexibility. Ability and willingness to experiment and pivot based on organizational and network needs and experimental success and failures

Responsibilities

  • Define and lead our approach to audience growth across platforms, with a focus on TikTok, Instagram, and emerging channels
  • Identify high-potential audience niches and develop strategies to reach and engage them
  • Build a repeatable model for testing, learning, and scaling audience growth initiatives
  • Launch and manage niche social media accounts designed to build and retain audience
  • Partner with contract creators, editors, and designers to produce platform-native content; develop and manage an ongoing network of freelance collaborators
  • Test content formats and engagement strategies; be hands-on in-account, especially at launch
  • Evaluate how and when impact messaging can be integrated without compromising audience trust or growth
  • Partner with the Impact team to test and refine messaging based on real-time audience response
  • Work with the Digital Strategy and Impact teams to translate audience insights into partner-facing learning opportunities
  • Serve as a cross-functional resource across teams, improving our collective understanding of what resonates with audiences and why
  • Define success metrics, analyze performance data, and share insights regularly with internal stakeholders
  • Stay current on platform trends, creator dynamics, and shifts in audience behavior; identify opportunities to expand the model if the pilot is successful
  • Help advance our goal of becoming an anti-racist organization. Within your role, apply equitable work practices, challenge white supremacy, and help make our programs more inclusive. Center our understanding that multiple systems of oppression intersect with racism and be an active part of our values work.
  • Serve as a resource to our networks of partners. Help amplify partner successes, make connections between partners and facilitate learning sharing, and offer your expertise to partners in our networks wherever it makes sense.
  • Take an entrepreneurial approach to their work and learning new skills. In our fast-paced, unstructured environment, we love it when staff first try to figure things out on their own and then ask for help if they’re stuck. In this role, it will be critical to take initiative, communicate clearly, and ensure tasks are completed.
  • Seek out opportunities to deepen their skills on current/emerging platforms and with lean startup methodology. We take an individualized approach to growth where staff have the chance to explore and propose development opportunities that align with their interests and the team’s priorities.

Benefits

  • $90,000-$104,000 salary range, with exact salary depending on experience and new staff rarely starting at the top of the range.

  • Cell phone and internet reimbursement (or co-working reimbursement): We acknowledge that working from home requires using your own internet and phone for work purposes so we offer a set reimbursement amount for cell phone and internet usage. If working from home isn’t for you, we also have the option for folks to rent a co-working space and get reimbursed for their monthly costs.
  • Need-based educational loan assistance after 3 months
