About The Position

The Advanced Test Reactor (ATR) organization at Idaho National Laboratory is seeking applicants for the Director of Operations. In this role, you will be responsible for all aspects of the Advanced Test Reactor (ATR), Advanced Test Reactor Critical Facility (ATRC), Nuclear Material Inspection and Storage Facility (NMIS), and ATR Utility Facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering or Science field and a minimum of 10 years of experience in the operation and maintenance of nuclear reactor facilities, or advanced degree in the same field(s) of study and 8 years of experience.
  • 5 years of progressive leadership experience including at the senior leadership level.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership and business management skills with a proven record of accomplishments in the nuclear field through publications, awards, and professional recognition.
  • Demonstrated history of successful strategic leadership and planning.
  • Must have excellent skills in organization, interpersonal interactions, and communication.
  • Knowledge of reactor engineering, physics, chemistry, metallurgy, and mathematics.
  • Experience applying reactor systems design and operation principles.
  • Must currently hold or have previously held a Senior Reactor Operator (or equivalent) license or certification for ATR or similar DOE Category A reactor plant, nuclear propulsion plant, or nuclear power plant.
  • If not previously certified as a Senior Reactor Operator at the ATR, must be able to attain satisfactory ATR SRO-level knowledge within 12 months of hire while performing regular job duties.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE 'Q' level clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the safe and efficient operation of reactor experiments and plant facilities in order to maximize plant availability and customer expectations.
  • Responsible for all ATR nuclear and non-nuclear training programs for operators and maintenance personnel.
  • Provide executive-level strategic leadership and integration within ATR and BEA leadership teams and across the INL and DOE.
  • Collaborate with other DOE nuclear reactor organizations and sets and maintains high standards for performance and operational excellence.
  • Participate in national and international nuclear reactor community by providing expert level knowledge and execution of human and organizational performance improvement.
  • Manage activities through subordinate managers and ensure the effective operation of activities of major significance to ATR Operations.
