About The Position

South Slope Communications is seeking a strategic, hands-on Director of Accounting to lead our accounting and billing functions during an exciting period of growth and investment. This role is ideal for an accomplished accounting leader who thrives in a evolving environment, values strong teams, and wants their work to meaningfully support employees, customers, and the communities we serve. As Director of Accounting, you will ensure the accuracy and integrity of our financial reporting, strengthen internal controls, and partner closely with the CFO and executive leadership to support long-term strategy—especially as we expand and maintain critical telecommunications infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
  • 7-10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role preferred
  • Experience in telecommunications environment preferred
  • Experience with ERP systems and advanced financial reporting tools
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to think strategically
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • A strong commitment to employees, customers, and community
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Oversee and continuously improve the month-end and year-end close processes
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable industry standards
  • Ensure compliance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Rural Utilities Service (RUS), and other federal/state regulatory requirements
  • Support the preparation of regulatory filings, cost studies, and reporting requirements unique to telecommunications
  • Maintain compliance with loan covenants and reporting requirements
  • Lead the annual financial audit and serve as primary liaison with external auditors
  • Develop, implement, and maintain strong internal control systems
  • Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks
  • Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed asset accounting
  • Oversee billing process and collaborate with sales and operations on pricing
  • Ensure accurate accounting for capital-intensive projects, including fiber network expansion and infrastructure investments
  • Manage plant accounting, depreciation, and work order systems typical of telecom operations
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing accounting team
  • Foster a collaborative, service-oriented culture aligned with company values
  • Partner across departments to support operational and strategic initiatives
  • Partner with the CFO on budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning
  • Provide insights and analysis to support capital allocation, rate strategies, and growth initiatives
  • Contribute to financial reporting and presentations for executive leadership and the Board of Directors
