About The Position

The Director of Accounting is responsible for overseeing all accounting and finance functions of the organization. This position ensures compliance with all applicable tax and accounting regulations and manages the preparation and filing of all necessary financial statements. The successful candidate has excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and a deep understanding of accounting principles and processes.

Requirements

  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Able to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in accounting and finance of affordable housing
  • Advanced knowledge of GAAP and federal and state tax laws
  • Experience with Microsoft applications

Responsibilities

  • Developing and implementing strategic plans to improve organizational efficiency, facility maintenance, and office services.
  • Preparing and monitoring budgets, managing payroll, and overseeing general accounting.
  • Directing in hiring, training, and managing performance, as well as ensuring the company complies with employment laws.
  • Negotiating and managing contracts with external service providers.
  • Providing the leadership team with data-driven reports and handling complex scheduling or board-level logistics.
  • Oversee the preparation of all necessary financial statements, and ensure that all financial reporting is accurate and timely.
  • Supervise the staff processing accounts payables and receivables, including invoices and payments.
  • Monitor the accuracy of financial data and ensure that all financial transactions are properly recorded.
  • Analyze financial data for patterns, trends, and anomalies, and recommend corrective action as necessary.
  • Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Provide financial guidance and support to department heads, and ensure that all financial decisions are aligned with the organization’s strategic goals.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff.
