About The Position

Management & Training Corporation operates the North Central Correctional Complex in Marion, Ohio, providing residents with medical services supporting their health and well-being. The Director, Nursing supervises nursing staff and nursing care and performs clinical, public health, medication-management, safety, security, documentation, and administrative duties. The role works within the Ohio State Board of Nursing scope of practice and may require on-call work.

Requirements

College degree in nursing.
Current, valid Registered Nurse license for the state of Ohio.
Three years of nursing experience.
Two years of supervisory experience.
Current CPR certification.
Must work within the Ohio State Board of Nursing scope of practice.
Valid Ohio driver's license with an acceptable driving record, unless waived by management.
Must attain and maintain appropriate facility security clearance.

Responsibilities

Supervise nursing staff and nursing care.
Attend sick call with physicians to see inmates and prepare the examination room and equipment.
Contact the physician for medication and treatment orders and other emergencies.
Examine and assess inmates with illnesses or injuries, confer with a physician about emergency-room referrals as appropriate, and document care in medical records or other forms.
Maintain the current master list of inmates and employees with ongoing CID needs or documented completion of CID services.
Plan, coordinate, and implement public health programs required by state codes.
Perform contact investigations and referrals when appropriate, and maintain the telephone log.
Coordinate and conduct CID meetings and share information with the Health Services Administrator and health services staff.
Operate the pill cart and dispense medications; ensure medications are administered and recorded and appropriate laboratory tests are obtained as ordered for patients with sexually transmitted diseases.
Coordinate and ensure immunizations are administered and recorded.
Provide health counseling and education individually or in groups as required.
Practice cost containment and utilization management for patient care and facility operations.
Maintain the security and confidentiality of medical records and comply with applicable HIPAA rules.
Comply with applicable pharmacy laws, especially those concerning controlled substances.
Observe and record inmate behavior, assess and triage, and document appropriately.
Inspect the medical unit for potential contraband; securely store or safely dispose of supplies and equipment, and control medications, syringes, and other medical supplies.
Perform work on an on-call basis as required.
Assist corporate counsel with responses to inmate lawsuits.
Facilitate applicable NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO accreditation of the medical program by providing efficient and approved, appropriate medical services.
Prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports as required, and take appropriate action in serious or unusual incidents and emergencies.
Conduct investigations and inquiries as directed; gather information and evidence, interview people, obtain statements, and exercise independent judgment in determining when probable cause exists to recommend disciplinary action.
Perform rescue functions during accidents, emergencies, and disasters, including administering basic emergency medical aid, moving people away from danger, and securing and evacuating people from confined areas.
