About The Position

Vanderbilt Health – Executive Search Team is conducting a national search for a Director, Nursing Operations, Monroe Carrell Jr. Children's Hospital. This role reports to the Associate Nursing Officer and provides administrative oversight and leadership for staffing operations and patient throughput functions. The Director participates in the development and execution of operational and strategic functions and processes to achieve clinical, staffing, and patient flow goals. Key responsibilities include fiscal accountability, maintaining quality and regulatory standards, optimizing workforce utilization, and supporting a high level of patient/family centered care and service. The role involves leading efforts to proactively manage census fluctuations, maximize capacity, and remove barriers to efficient patient placement while enhancing patient and staff satisfaction. The Director also oversees program development, team management, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure integration across the clinical enterprise, and provides feedback, coaching, and mentoring to less experienced peers and other members of the health care team. Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt is a 343-bed hospital with extensive facilities and a large annual clinic visit volume, serving a population beyond the Nashville market through a growing ambulatory network. The hospital has a history of nursing excellence and holds its fourth consecutive Magnet designation.

Requirements

  • Nursing degree required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), or Doctorate in Nursing.
  • If nursing degree at Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) level, then masters can be non-nursing degree.
  • 5 + years experience.
  • Experience working in a highly complex, matrixed Academic Medical Center.
  • Relevant leadership experience.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates optimal patient journey for seamless execution of plan of care as patients progress according to patterned pathways.
  • Develops goals and objectives for the department based on interpretation of institutional policy and goals.
  • Engages with Palliative Care services and the progression of skill of institutional multidisciplinary discussion of "goals of care" with patients.
  • Initiate changes in or develop new policies, procedures and/or methods.
  • Ensure the most effective operations of the department through program development, process improvement and coordination/integration of processes with other departments.
  • Engages bedside nurses in formal nursing research for relevant patient improvement opportunities.
