About The Position

Habitat for Humanity Canada is a national charity comprised of local Habitat organizations working in every province and the North. The Director, National Programs will join Habitat Canada’s Management Team and support the development and management of innovative housing solutions for homeowners across Canada. The Director is responsible for the strategic planning, development, and management of national programs, ensuring alignment with Habitat for Humanity’s overall strategic priorities and Canadian charity compliance requirements. This role works closely with local Habitat offices across Canada to support and strengthen skilled trades, sustainability, repairs, and Indigenous housing programs. The Director reports to the Senior Director, Programs and manages three staff.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in a relevant field such as international development, public policy, business administration, or related field.
  • 10+ years managing complex programs and operational management.
  • Extensive experience in project or program management with demonstrated success in design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and learning.
  • Proven track record of leading and managing large, complex programs across a variety of donors including governments, private sector, and foundations.
  • Extensive experience managing diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving and priority-setting skills, with a proven ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Experience managing and developing positive team relationships.
  • Commitment to Habitat’s mission and values, including equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace.

  • Knowledge of community-based, people-centered development principles, affordable housing, and results-based management is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of national programs, with a focus on driving program improvement and innovation.
  • Deliver operational excellence in due diligence, grant management, contracting, evaluation, reporting, and ensuring internal processes run smoothly.
  • Lead effective management of national program budgets and risk management, adhering to compliance requirements and organizational policies.
  • Lead the design and implementation of Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEAL) frameworks to assess program performance, inform strategic decision-making, and foster continuous improvement across national programs, working in collaboration with other departments.
  • Oversee reporting, ensuring partner requirements are met and ensure donors are well-informed, engaged, and satisfied.
  • Steward and coach local Habitat affiliates to ensure continued success and compliance with national programs and donor requirements.
  • Lead the development of program and project proposals ensuring they align with Habitat for Humanity’s mission and strategic objectives and ensuring their effective implementation.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with various stakeholders, including Habitat affiliates, donors, private sector partners, government organizations, institutional partners, and communities.
  • Support fundraising efforts for program activities, working closely with fundraising teams and other stakeholders, as needed.
  • Develop and lead a high-performing team of national program staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability across the organization.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to program staff, fostering their professional development and ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively implement programs.
  • Support organizational change initiatives related to program delivery and effectiveness.
