About The Position

Under general supervision, this role teaches approved SFPS curriculum to students of all abilities, promoting musical growth and providing appropriate musical activities. The Director will provide instruction in instrumental pedagogy, as well as musical concepts, theory, history, and performance etiquette. The position is for the 2026-2027 school year at El Dorado Community School.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in music education, or equivalent, with emphasis on instrumental music.
NM state certification required with music endorsement.
Post-offer/pre-employment background check.
Ability to differentiate instruction.
Knowledge of instrument pedagogy and appropriate literature.
Knowledge of effective rehearsal techniques and classroom management.
Knowledge of administrative duties associated with the band program.
Lifting of heavy musical equipment, not limited to: Portable acoustic shell, Choir risers, Music Stands, Sound systems, Chairs, etc.
Frequent walking, standing, lifting, up to approx 40lbs, and occasional lifting of equipment such as band equipment weighing up to approx. 50lbs may be required.
Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
Visual acuity is required for determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.
The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, and hazards.
Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required.
Regular instruction to special needs students may be necessary.
Regular contact with students to provide a positive learning environment is required.
Contact with administrators, staff members, parents, and community members is required.
Frequent contact with parents by phone and in person is necessary.
Occasional contact with medical professionals may be required.
Demonstrates reliability as evidenced by attendance records and punctuality.
Properly notifies supervisor and/or designee of absences or tardiness.
Begins and completes work within the allotted time.
Consistently appears in attire appropriate to the work environment.
Demonstrates skill in the use of equipment, including its capabilities, limitations, and appropriate/special applications.
Protects the District’s resources through appropriate and careful use of supplies and equipment.
Utilizes appropriate body mechanics to aid in the prevention of muscle strain/injury.

Responsibilities

Participates in appropriate state, regional, and district-sponsored festivals and competitive/performance events.
Conducts site-based and public performances.
Promotes an environment/climate conducive to productive performance in music education.
Communicates effectively with the school principal and the music coordinator.
Attends monthly music district meetings.
Meets and instructs students in assigned locations and at designated times.
Instructs and plans for the band program at assigned site(s) during the nine-month contract.
Ensures the adequate supervision of students.
Establishes and maintains rapport with students.
Motivates students to achieve maximum potential.
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Works collaboratively with staff, families, and community resources to support the success of a diverse student population.
Complies with and supports school regulations and policies.
Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
Recruits and retains students for participation in the band program.
Performs other duties as assigned.
