About The Position

The Director, Multilingual Learner Programming will serve as a member of the Leadership Team, responsible for planning, supervising, and coordinating the K-5 ESL program. This role involves setting goals for student learning outcomes, managing ESL-related assessments, and ensuring accountability. The Director will develop and procure ESL curriculum, support ESL teachers through implementation, professional development, and coaching, and facilitate ESL department meetings. Collaboration with the Academic Leadership Team is key for planning professional development for educators, parents, and students, focusing on areas like language acquisition, WIDA initiatives, SEI instruction, and annual priorities. The position requires coaching and developing teachers to identify appropriate instructional practices and supports for English Learners (ELs) through modeling, consultations, observations, and feedback. The Director will supervise and evaluate ESL teachers, support lesson planning and execution to ensure all learners achieve mastery, and guarantee students have the necessary language accommodations and modifications. Responsibilities also include the initial identification, intake, and assessment of English Learners, managing teacher referrals, and collaboratively determining services and supports. The role involves designing and coordinating EL services that comply with DESE requirements, determining appropriate services based on proficiency levels, and making instructional recommendations. Compliance with state and federal laws regarding English Learner policies and practices, including ELE Program evaluations, OLA Tier Review, and SIMS, is essential. The Director will contribute to schoolwide reports, manage data quality for DESE reporting, coordinate ACCESS testing, and utilize data to inform instruction and target skills. Maintaining accessible records of language development, service models, hours, and family communication in compliance with DESE and charter requirements is also a key duty. The Director will serve as the point person for ESL resource matters, coordinate Reclassification and FEL monitoring processes, and facilitate parent meetings on services and strategies. Additionally, the role requires timely email responses, reading the Weekly Memo, upholding school values and systems, and maintaining professionalism.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in a related field of study
  • Must hold DESE Licensure in ESL, ELL, or TBE, and SEI Endorsement
  • Must hold or be eligible to apply for DESE Licensure as Supervisor/Director (Non-Core) within two years of employment
  • 3 or more years of ESL teaching and supervisory experience

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the Leadership Team
  • Plan, supervise, and coordinate the K-5 ESL program
  • Set goals and benchmarks for student learning outcomes, coordinate ESL-related assessments and ensure accountability
  • Develop and procure ESL curriculum and support ESL teachers through curriculum implementation, providing pedagogical instruction, professional development, and individual coaching
  • Facilitate ESL department meetings and develop and oversee ESL staff professional development
  • Collaborate with other members of the Academic Leadership Team to plan and facilitate professional development for educators, parents, or students (i.e., language acquisition, WIDA initiatives, SEI instruction, annual priorities)
  • Coach and develop teachers to identify appropriate instructional practices and supports for ELs through modeling, consultations, observations and feedback
  • Supervise and evaluate ESL teachers
  • Support teachers with the planning and execution of lessons that will lead all learners to mastery and ensure students have the language accommodations and modifications necessary to fully access the lesson
  • Responsible for initial identification, intake, and assessment of English Learners; manage teacher referrals and collaboratively determine services and extra supports for students
  • Collaboratively design and also coordinate services for EL students that comply with DESE requirements; determine appropriate EL services based on English proficiency level of students and make instructional recommendations
  • Maintain compliance with all state and federal laws regarding English Learner policies and practices including English Learner Education (ELE) Program evaluations, OLA Tier Review, and SIMS
  • Contribute to the English-learner related sections of schoolwide reports such as the annual report
  • Submit by deadline and own data quality of EL data required for DESE reporting
  • Coordinate ACCESS testing
  • Monitor and utilize data throughout the academic year to inform instruction, group students, and target skills and strategies for instruction
  • Maintain records/files of language development data, service models and hours, and communication with families of English Learners that is easily accessible and in compliance with DESE and charter requirements
  • Serve as point person for ESL resource matters (e.g. resource inventory, material needs)
  • Coordinate the Reclassification and FEL monitoring processes
  • Facilitate parent meetings on services and strategies to support their children’s learning
  • Frequently check email and respond to inquiries as needed within 48 hours
  • Read the Weekly Memo in advance of the start of the school week
