About The Position

Supervises and performs technical work planning and executing the Landscape Operations program of the Duval County School Board. Ensures landscape maintenance of district facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred from an accredited college or university. Experience can be substituted for post-secondary education with a required high school diploma or GED.
  • Five (5) years experience managing, supervising, and/or coordinating a broad variety of facility maintenance, repair and construction functions and projects.
  • Knowledge of state of Florida policies, rules, regulations, and statues related to plant services
  • Knowledge in maintenance and landscape procedures
  • Knowledge of human resource policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of current and best practices for modern Landscape service techniques
  • Knowledge of principals of major Landscape and Grounds trades
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software skills
  • Strong supervisory management skills
  • Ability to motivate and manage diverse teams
  • Ability to meet timelines
  • Ability to make recommendations for improvements
  • Ability to schedule maintenance functions, administration, personnel requirements and budgeting
  • Ability to analyze data

  • Experience with a large, complex service organization with multiple facilities preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Directs activities of the various crafts of the Maintenance Landscape Department in conjunction with School Maintenance.
  • Leads, directs, and manages Landscape department: recruits, selects, orients, trains, coaches, counsels, and disciplines staff. Plans, monitors, appraises, and reviews staff job contributions to planning, development, delivery, follow-up, and evaluation of Landscape operations.
  • Provides and monitors management reports on costs, landscape maintenance backlog, preventative landscape maintenance, projected facility, and equipment repairs, and makes recommendations for corrective actions as required.
  • Analyzes maintenance requirements, plans, and procedures, and estimates man-hours and material requirements. Coordinates overlapping activities and evaluates results of maintenance activities both as to quantity and quality of production.
  • Write specifications for Landscape contracted services; inspects work for compliance with specifications; and reviews work production for efficiency and economy of operations.
  • Inspects schools to determine scope and priority of work to be accomplished by Maintenance Landscape Department personnel.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies regarding health, safety, and environmental practices.
  • Responds to inquiries or concerns from district staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
