About The Position

The Director, Laboratory is responsible for supporting the execution of company strategy across business segments to optimize experience and results. This role involves establishing and maintaining a safe working environment, ensuring staff compliance with safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, and holding individuals accountable for non-compliance. The Director will also ensure the completion of staff competencies, including mandatory education, and promptly investigate and resolve Significant Occurrence Reports and incident reports. A key aspect of this role is improving HCAP scores and demonstrating year-over-year improvement in service to internal and external customers. The Director will practice and encourage staff readiness in compliance with agency regulations and guidelines, respond to client service recovery issues, and provide opportunities for staff input into the decision-making process. This position requires the use of LEAN tools to streamline work processes, eliminate waste, and improve productivity, including leading at least one process improvement initiative per year for the department and participating in at least one LEAN project outside the department annually. Additionally, the Director will actively support and participate in succession planning initiatives, identify high potentials, and prepare them for future leadership opportunities. Financial acumen is crucial, requiring consideration of the financial impact of decisions, use of financial concepts for decision-making, monitoring financial performance, and developing and managing the department budget at or below expectations. This position requires 75% domestic travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Lab Science, Biological Science or related field of study
  • Five (5) years of experience as a Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or related role where required experience was gained.
  • MLT, MS or MLS Certification
  • 2 years of supervisory/management experience in laboratory setting
  • EMR experience

  • Practice and encourage staff readiness in compliance with agency regulations and guidelines.
  • Improve HCAP scores according to fiscal year targets.
  • Demonstrate year after year improvement in service to internal and external customers.
  • Respond to client service recovery issues within required time frame and to the satisfaction of the customer.
  • Provide opportunities for staff to actively provide input into decision making process.
  • Seek input before decision is made.
  • Understand and effectively deploy the LEAN tools to streamline work processes, eliminating waste and redundancy while improving productivity.
  • Lead at least one process improvement initiative for department per year.
  • Participate in at least one LEAN project per year outside of department.
  • Actively support and participate in succession planning initiatives.
  • Identify high potentials and prepare them for possible future leadership opportunities within Excela Health.
