About The Position

As the Director, Laboratory Services, you will be a vital member of a dynamic team responsible for the Laboratory Department. Under the direction of the Executive Director of Laboratory, you will assume 24-hour accountability for the Laboratory Department, fostering departmental quality and meeting department and hospital standards. You will ensure that the goals, mission, and philosophy of the hospital and Patient Care Services are consistently implemented within your scope of responsibility. This role requires planning and working flexible hours and days to meet the needs and requirements of the department. You will be given general guidance and direction, and are expected to function with initiative and independent judgment. You will assist with the development, interpretation, and application of department policies, budgets, and long-range plans. You will support the vision of the corporation and department and act as a change agent of senior management.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree in Business/Microbiology/Biology or related field from an approved college or university required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years managerial experience in Laboratory environment required.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to foster collaboration and positive working relationships.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear and concise reports, policies, and correspondence.
  • Ability to identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency, productivity, and cost-effectiveness while maintaining quality.
  • Applies a system-wide perspective and sound judgment in decision-making with potential organizational impact.
  • Effective conflict resolution, negotiation, stress management, and time management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the supervision and day-to-day operations in a multifaceted team environment.
  • Hires, terminates, monitors, evaluates and coaches employees regarding performance, conduct, attendance, and other related matters. Holds staff accountable to organizational policies and procedures.
  • Supervises and evaluates department activities against established standards, policies, and procedures. Initiates corrective action and evaluates results. Meets CAP and other regulatory standards.
  • Acts as a representative of the hospital in outside associations and negotiations.
  • Formulates action plans, which incorporate present and future equipment and staffing to remain competitive in the market.
  • Implements and designs, with team, new policies and procedures that enhance our customer and employee relationships.
  • Knows and evaluates reimbursement policies and practices with an ongoing working knowledge of future health care programs.
  • Develops department budget and monitors variances.
  • Maintains open dialogue with both the medical director and hospital administration on all Laboratory operations, including but not limited to, capital expenditures, expenses, and revenue.
  • Interacts with physician office and nursing home staff to maintain good working relationships.
