About The Position

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of leading high performing Information Technology teams while having the technical competency to drive best practices relative to Database Administration. This position reports directly to CFO and will be tasked with coordinating with both internal and external resources to best meet the business needs. Position provides ongoing technical and managerial guidance to IT staff to continually improve processes via root cause analysis and adherence to best practices. The IT Director seeks to achieve a high level of department productivity while ensuring the quality of work performed is “World Class”. Position works closely with CFO and other business leaders to determine IT priorities that best support all functional areas while maintaining required budgetary constraints.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years as an IT Director or equivalent position within a company that has > 300 users.
  • Significant experience administering MS SQL Server versions 2016, 2019 and 2022.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of MS SQL high availability environment and Best Practices.
  • Mastery of Best Practices for design, setup, configuration and maintenance of Data Warehouse environment to support SSRS and BI tools.
  • Understanding of Best Practices for VMware infrastructure for SQL Server
  • 3-5+ years of security experience working with Endpoint Security, Intrusion Prevention, and Firewall security
  • Hands on experience in security systems, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, anti-virus software, authentication systems, log management, content filtering, etc.
  • Experience with network security and networking technologies and with system, security, and network monitoring tools.
  • Thorough understanding of the latest security principles, techniques, and protocols
  • Problem solving skills and ability to work under pressure
  • BS degree in Computer Science or related field coupled with demonstrated success at mid to large size company.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with multi-node/multi-instance clusters preferred
  • Knowledge of hardware and its impact on SQL preferred.
  • Proficient working knowledge of the SQL language
  • Significant Team management and collaboration skills and experience.
  • Experience with use and development of MS Dynamics/NAV and understanding of NAV Database schema.
  • Experience with use and development of MS Business Central and understanding of Business Central Database schema.
  • Experience with SharePoint, MS Office, or equivalent systems and solutions.
  • PMI (Project Management Institute) or equivalent certifications.
  • Experience with integration and optimization of existing business systems
  • Experience with business intelligence (BI) and business analytic (BA) systems and solutions.
  • Excellent communications skills, coupled with sound problem resolution, judgment, and decision-making skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work under minimal management, with strong organizational skills.
  • Must be able to multi-task, prioritize, and manage multiple projects, in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide onsite / ongoing direction to IT Manager and other team members in support of daily operations.
  • Strong emphasis on systems availability to minimize any business disruptions.
  • Be the point person as it related to coordination with external resources (MSP,VAR,Suppliers)
  • Conduct annual performance appraisals for team members and work with human resources as appropriate for hiring, termination or promotional activities.
  • Provide technical and operational database administration for MS SQL Server in Dev, Test and Production environments
  • Responsible for strategic items such as backup / disaster recovery planning as it relates to IT infrastructure.
  • Apply database knowledge in the areas of physical database design, performance and tuning backup and recovery procedures and general problem resolution
  • Support multiple servers and multiple databases of high complexity with multiple concurrent users, ensuring control, integrity and accessibility of the data
  • Work with DBA team to develop, implement, and monitor standards and procedures to ensure optimum performance, scalability and reliability
  • Create and maintain scripts and documentation for all aspects of administration including database design, implementation, data scrubbing, encryption, disaster recovery, and participate in disaster recovery process
  • Perform system optimization and improvement planning, including, but not limited to, SQL Server database performance monitoring and analysis, capacity planning, system sizing and ongoing maintenance and tuning to ensure maximum performance
  • Hands-on support of large databases, including, but not limited to, availability monitoring, security, general database maintenance, extract- transformation-load, backup/recovery, documentation, and configuration
  • Perform ongoing monitoring of servers to provide proactive issue resolution
  • Perform code reviews, identify potential issues to reduce technical debt and provide coding best practice recommendations.
  • Other tasks as deemed appropriate by Threshold management.
