About The Position

The Director, International Insurance Finance is responsible for providing in-depth financial analysis and playing a lead role in the International Insurance Profit Plan and Forecasts processes, as well as providing ongoing P&L and profitability reviews. This includes applying analytics and further developing and enhancing financial intelligence capabilities and tools in partnership with other Insurance business support areas. The Director will lead the International Insurance Finance team and be a key partner to the regional and country business teams, insurance business support teams, and International Banking finance teams. The role involves providing input into strategic direction, leadership, and oversight for finance matters for International Insurance as a finance business partner, ensuring business strategies, plans, and initiatives are supported in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures. It also includes directing financial reviews or initiatives to support strategic priorities and/or improve management processes and standardize methodologies, implementing and maintaining constantly evolving performance measurement practices, and providing insightful analysis related to the health and mix of the business. The Director will develop and maintain strong working relationships within International Insurance business units, divisional support functions, International Banking Finance, and Wealth Management Finance. Key responsibilities include leading the planning, forecasting, and reporting for International Insurance, working with the Business Line and finance partners to build annual and multi-year strategic plans and forecasts, including all P&L and relevant balance sheet items (including Business Case Pool projects), and working on the monthly and quarter-end close and leading the production of various monthly and quarterly performance dashboards including value-added performance commentary and variance analysis. The Director will also direct day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits, communicate the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams, and create an environment where the team pursues effective and efficient operations while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to, and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls. Furthermore, the role involves building a high-performance environment and implementing a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates the team by fostering an inclusive work environment, communicating vision/values/business strategy, and managing succession and development planning for the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; MBA and/or Accounting/ Professional Designation preferred
  • 10 years’ progressive experience in the FP&A/finance field for a financial institution within the insurance industry
  • Actuarial and IFRS 17 experience
  • Thorough knowledge of Insurance products/services, financial drivers and performance measurement, compliance, planning and analysis, and legal and regulatory requirements with a focus on Latin American and/or Caribbean Markets
  • Excellent leadership, communication skills, proficiency in financial analysis.
  • Strong strategic and analytical skills required to develop the vision, goals, strategies, and plans for the Finance Department aligning with the overall Bank strategy.
  • Fluency in Spanish an asset as the role requires direct interaction with country business and finance partners.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of finance and the ability to continuously and critically analyze the current state for new concepts, insights and opportunities for improvement.
  • Strong initiative, forward thinking and creative problem-solving skills with the ability to create or stimulate integrated cross-disciplinary strategic solutions.
