About The Position

The Canadian Public Accountability Board (CPAB) oversees public accounting firms that audit Canadian reporting issuers. CPAB promotes audit quality through proactive regulation, robust audit assessments, dialogue with domestic and international stakeholders, and practicable insights that inform capital market participants and contribute to public confidence in the integrity of financial reporting. This role is for a Director, Inspections to join the inspections team in Vancouver.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 10 years of recent progressive public company accounting and audit experience at a Big Four or other national accounting firm.
  • CPA designation is required.
  • In-depth technical knowledge of IFRS and Canadian Auditing Standards; US GAAP is also an asset.
  • Demonstrated leadership and influencing skills to effect change and positive outcomes.
  • Ability to travel, approximately up to 6 weeks per year.
  • A strong passion for auditing and safeguarding the integrity of capital markets.

  • Demonstrated strategic and analytical skills applied to resolving complex accounting and auditing issues.

Nice To Haves

  • US GAAP is also an asset.
  • Proficiency in French is required if applying for Montreal.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting inspections of audit firms (both public company audit files and the Firm’s system of quality management) in accordance with CPAB’s inspection methodology. This will include engaging in discussions with audit Firm’s engagement teams and Firm’s leadership.
  • Manage assigned inspection work effectively by meeting deadlines and executing inspections efficiently and to a high standard of quality.
  • Build and maintain professional, productive, and respectful working relationships with colleagues, audit firms, and external stakeholders, ensuring all interactions reflect positively on CPAB, reinforce its mission, and support the integrity of financial reporting.
  • Preparing high quality written inspection reports that are clear, accurate, and impactful.
  • Participating in inspection projects designed to enhance the effectiveness and continuous improvement of CPAB’s inspection processes.
  • Supporting stakeholder engagement and thought leadership initiatives.
  • Travel may be required periodically throughout the year.
