About The Position

The role leads the transformation of enterprise authentication from legacy MFA to a modern, phishing-resistant, Zero Trust-aligned ecosystem using platforms such as Okta, Microsoft Entra, FIDO2, Passkeys, Windows Hello, Platform SSO, and Conditional Access. The ideal candidate has delivered enterprise-wide, phased technology rollouts at Walmart scale, understands authentication as a critical security control, and can balance security, compliance, and user experience through appropriate authentication assurance. Success requires strong leadership in complex matrixed organizations and the ability to leverage AI and automation to accelerate delivery, improve productivity, and reduce operational friction. Experience in security is preferred. About the team: The Information Security team leads enterprise-wide modernization of authentication and multi-factor authentication (MFA) systems at Walmart scale. This team drives strategy, engineering execution, and operations to deliver secure, reliable, and user-friendly authentication experiences. It manages phased rollouts across multiple business units, supports legacy platform modernization, and scales strategic identity platforms such as Okta, Microsoft Entra, and Ping One. The team leverages automation and AI to enhance productivity and outcomes while maintaining strong cyber risk management and security controls aligned with organizational policies and compliance requirements.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in engineering, platform engineering, infrastructure, or enterprise technology, including 5+ years leading engineering organizations.
  • Proven success delivering enterprise-wide platforms at Walmart scale and executing phased rollouts across complex, matrixed environments.
  • Experience coordinating business, technology, operations, and support teams while managing adoption, communications, helpdesk readiness, exceptions, and deployment risk.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise authentication, MFA, identity security, access controls, and authentication assurance.
  • Excellent executive communication and stakeholder management skills, with demonstrated ability to leverage AI, automation, and modern engineering practices to accelerate delivery and improve outcomes.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, information systems, cybersecurity, or related area and 6 years’ experience in information security or related area at a technology, retail, or data-driven company.
  • OR 8 years’ experience in information security or related area at a technology, retail, or data-driven company.
  • 3 years’ supervisory experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in Fortune 100 retail or similarly large enterprises preferred.
  • Certification in Security+, GISF, CISM, or CISA
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or related area and 4 years’ experience leading information security or cybersecurity projects
  • Knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering strategy, roadmap, and delivery of Walmart's enterprise authentication services, including modern MFA and phishing-resistant authentication aligned with Zero Trust principles.
  • Drive large-scale, phased enterprise rollouts through cross-functional coordination with security, infrastructure, application, operations, and business teams.
  • Define authentication assurance models that balance security, risk, compliance, and user experience.
  • Ensure authentication platforms are highly available, resilient, scalable, and operationally excellent.
  • Foster engineering excellence by leveraging AI, automation, telemetry, and modern development practices to improve delivery, reliability, operational insights, and team productivity.
