About The Position

As the leading nonprofit, nonpartisan philanthropic partner of the National Park Service, Trust for the National Mall brings expertise, private funding and in-kind support to time-sensitive restoration and sustainability projects, mobilizes volunteers, and provides educational opportunities to ensure that the National Mall endures and evolves as a vibrant space for all. The Trust is at an exciting time in its history as it celebrates the nation's 250th anniversary. It is a small but growing team and a fast-paced and dynamic environment. The Director, Individual Giving plays an important role in building, securing, and expanding support from individuals for the National Mall and the National Park Service (NPS). The Director, Individual Giving is an integral member of the Philanthropy Team and reports to the Senior Director of Philanthropy. The Director, Individual Giving serves as a key member of the Philanthropy Team by strategically managing and growing a portfolio of individual donors. In addition to acquiring, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual donors, the Director, Individual Giving oversees annual fund strategy, including digital and direct mail campaigns targeting membership gifts.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years experience in non-profit fundraising.
  • Experience securing four- and five-figure gifts.
  • Experience securing membership gifts and entry-level donations.
  • Experience designing and implementing individual giving strategy.
  • Pipeline, donor, and client management expertise.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with strong follow-through.
  • Willingness to take initiative and adapt with a 'can-do' attitude in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exhibits high standards of accountability and par excellence customer service and stewardship.
  • Integrates friendliness and courtesy into all aspects of work.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and Salesforce preferred, not required.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) certification, preferred.
  • Proven experience in major gifts, annual fund, membership giving, direct mail, email marketing and/or donor stewardship is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of 75-100 individual prospects/donors.
  • Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors who can make four- and five-figure gifts.
  • Collaborate with Sr. Donor Relations Coordinator to develop and implement donor engagement strategies across individual giving portfolio.
  • Promote and drive individual donor attendance for TNM, Philanthropy, and Programs team events.
  • Develop and implement an individual fundraising strategy in partnership with the Sr. Director of Philanthropy.
  • Participate in Moves Management strategy sessions, MGO Pipeline meetings, and work in collaboration with the Prospect Development Manager.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records in the Salesforce CRM.
  • Oversee long-term Annual Fund strategy and investments for sustainable growth in unrestricted funding base.
  • Drive growth of the volume of donors in the entry and mid-level giving streams by overseeing direct mail, digital marketing, annual membership programs and other initiatives in partnership with Sr. Philanthropy Coordinator and external vendors.
  • Partner with Sr. Philanthropy Coordinator to develop and execute strategies to ensure small and mid-level individual donors are stewarded, cultivated, and solicited so their giving is renewed and increasing over time.
  • Own the development and regular reporting of annual fund metrics, data, and dashboards in partnership with the Philanthropic Operations Team.
  • Manage a Sr. Philanthropy Coordinator and effectively utilize and grow their skills in individual fundraising.
  • Support the Sr. Philanthropy Coordinator in external vendor relationship management for annual fund implementation (direct and email, digital marketing, and Virtual Engagement tool vendors).
  • Actively participate in building organizational and team culture aligned with the Trust's values.
  • Other duties as assigned.
