About The Position

The Director, Indirect Procurement is a supply chain business expert who leads procurement professionals and/or people managers to deliver effective procurement operations and meet cost, availability, quality, and sustainability objectives. The role plans and implements timely, cost-effective procurement, supply and demand activities, and inventory control, while coordinating global procurement efforts and conducting sourcing activities. The Director owns the day-to-day indirect procurement process and its service standards, policies, systems, supplier onboarding, performance measures, and finance-related procurement data. The role also leads strategic sourcing across indirect categories, develops multi-year category strategies, negotiates contracts, manages savings plans, and oversees supplier relationships and commercial and supply risks. The position leads a distributed organization of directors, sourcing leads, and contingent specialists; serves as a senior procurement partner to business and functional leaders; represents indirect procurement in executive forums; and collaborates with Legal, Finance, IT, Information Security, HR, and Environmental, Health and Safety. The indirect portfolio includes professional services; IT and software; facilities and real estate; MRO and lab operations; marketing and travel; and logistics and corporate services.

  • Demonstrated ownership of a large indirect-spend portfolio, with measurable savings and cost-avoidance results validated by Finance.
  • Deep command of operational procurement processes and controls as well as strategic category management and competitive sourcing.
  • Strong commercial and contracting judgment, including negotiation of master agreements, statements of work, and software and services terms alongside Legal.
  • Fluency with procurement and ERP systems, spend analytics, and the data discipline needed to report spend and savings credibly.
  • Executive presence and communication skills to influence senior stakeholders who do not report to the role.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience coordinating global procurement efforts while also owning selected sourcing activities.

Responsibilities

  • Own the day-to-day indirect procurement process, including purchase-request intake and triage, requisition-to-purchase-order execution, sourcing waivers and bid thresholds, catalog and preferred-supplier enablement, and invoice, receipt, and three-way-match exception resolution.
  • Set cycle-time, quality, and compliance targets for requisition-to-order processes and regularly report performance to business partners and finance leadership.
  • Govern indirect procurement policy, including approval hierarchies, delegation of authority, competitive-bid and single-source justification rules, and controls to keep spend on contract.
  • Own procurement transaction systems and data, including catalogs, supplier master data, item and category taxonomy, and spend reporting.
  • Manage end-to-end supplier onboarding and qualification, including due diligence, risk screening, tax and banking validation, and supplier information maintenance.
  • Partner with Finance on budget alignment, purchase-order accruals, and month-end and quarter-end close activities that depend on procurement data.
  • Build and own multi-year indirect category strategies based on spend analytics, market intelligence, demand forecasts, and total cost of ownership.
  • Lead competitive sourcing events from market scan and RFI through RFP, bid analysis, should-cost modeling, negotiation, award, and executive decision readouts.
  • Negotiate and steward contracts with Legal, including master services agreements, statements of work, software and subscription terms, rate cards, rebates, volume tiers, and renewal and termination rights.
  • Build and maintain a renewal calendar to ensure renewals and auto-renewals are reviewed.
  • Own the annual indirect-spend savings plan, set category targets, maintain an initiative pipeline, and validate savings and cost avoidance with Finance.
  • Manage strategic supplier relationships through segmentation, scorecards, quarterly business reviews, performance improvement plans, and joint innovation or productivity commitments.
  • Manage commercial and supply risks, including supplier concentration, financial health, cybersecurity and data protection, business continuity, regulatory and trade compliance, and responsible sourcing.
  • Lead and develop a distributed team of directors, strategic sourcing leads, and contingent specialists; assign ownership, coach capabilities, manage performance and succession, and develop organizational capacity.
  • Shape the resourcing model across employees and contingent workers and make the case for investment when capacity limits value delivery.
  • Engage business-unit and functional leaders early in planning to influence demand and specifications.
  • Represent indirect procurement in executive forums, present category strategies and savings performance, and chair governance reviews for sourcing decisions, exceptions, and supplier escalations.
