About The Position

We are seeking a strategic, influential, and agile HR Business Partner Director to lead talent strategies for key G&A functions at Vertex. This Director will play a critical role in achieving the vision of enhancing leadership, driving innovation, enabling top-tier execution, and integrating technology to achieve superior performance across a diverse development pipeline. This role will serve as a trusted advisor to G&A leaders and their teams, shaping organizational design, culture, and workforce strategies that enable innovation, execution and long-term success. This role shapes and executes talent strategies that strengthen leadership, enable excellence, and supports Vertex’s mission to bring transformative therapies to patients.

Requirements

  • Proven ability to design and activate enterprise‑level HR and talent strategies that drive measurable business impact
  • Expert capability in strategic workforce planning, from insight generation and scenario modeling through execution
  • Deep expertise in talent management, succession planning, leadership development, and career architecture
  • Demonstrated leadership in large‑scale organizational change, culture evolution, and enterprise transformation initiatives
  • Advanced understanding of leadership effectiveness, employee relations, inclusive talent practices, and the application of workforce analytics to business decisions
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or related, relevant discipline
  • 10 years of progressive HR experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a strategic advisor and coach to senior leaders, influencing business and talent decisions through deep understanding of the operating environment, enterprise priorities, and external trends
  • Uses advanced data, analytics, and external insight to identify emerging workforce and capability trends; translates complexity into clear, compelling narratives that inform decision‑making, challenge assumptions, and drive action
  • Architects and leads integrated talent and organizational strategies that proactively address future capability needs, leadership gaps, and operating model evolution
  • Advises leaders on complex organization design, workforce transformation, and change leadership initiatives to enable agility, scale, and sustained performance
  • Shapes and executes enterprise‑aligned talent strategies to attract, develop, and retain critical skills and diverse leadership pipelines at all levels
  • Leads strategic workforce planning to align near‑ and long‑term talent supply with business strategy, including capability forecasting, succession planning, and scenario planning
  • Partners with HR Centers of Excellence (Total Rewards, Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, Strategic People Analytics, Employee Services & Global Operations) to deliver cohesive, high‑impact solutions and elevate the overall employee experience
  • Oversees and evolves core people processes (e.g., performance, talent reviews, compensation planning) to ensure they drive accountability, growth, and business outcomes—not just compliance
  • Partners with Talent Acquisition to shape forward‑looking hiring strategies aligned to critical capability builds, with a strong focus on diverse talent, pivotal roles, and board‑approved hires
