About The Position

As Director of Housekeeping, you will lead all aspects of the housekeeping operations, ensuring exceptional cleanliness, operational excellence, and memorable guest experiences. You will inspire and develop a high-performing team while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and service throughout the hotel.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of progressive housekeeping leadership experience, ideally within a hotel of similar size, scale, and operational complexity.
  • Experience leading teams in a unionized environment is required, including a strong understanding of collective bargaining agreements, respectful labor relations, and collaborative partnership with union representatives.
  • Highly organized and thrive in a fast-paced hospitality environment where priorities shift frequently.
  • Effectively manage multiple responsibilities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail and consistently high standards.
  • Lead by example with a hands-on approach, readily supporting your team wherever needed to ensure operational success and an outstanding guest experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and can build strong relationships with colleagues, guests, leadership, and union partners.
  • Professional fluency in English is required.
  • Frequently stand, walk, and move throughout guest rooms and operational areas.
  • Lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Operate housekeeping equipment and safely handle cleaning tools and supplies.
  • Use computers, property management systems, housekeeping applications, and standard office equipment.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills when interacting with guests, colleagues, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong reading and writing skills to prepare reports, complete documentation, interpret operational data, and deliver training.
  • Solid financial acumen, including budgeting, labor management, inventory control, profit and loss concepts, percentages, and variance analysis.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, coaching, motivational, and decision-making abilities.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.

Responsibilities

  • Leading daily housekeeping operations by planning, assigning, and coordinating work to ensure optimal staffing levels, productivity, and service excellence.
  • Recruiting, training, coaching, and developing team members while fostering a culture of accountability, engagement, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Setting clear performance expectations, providing regular feedback, recognizing achievements, and supporting career growth and development.
  • Ensuring all team members comply with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Maintaining exceptional housekeeping and laundry standards that consistently exceed guest expectations and support the hotel's quality and brand objectives.
  • Conducting routine inspections of guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, equipment, and linen inventories to ensure cleanliness, presentation, functionality, and proper maintenance.
  • Delivering personalized service by anticipating and fulfilling the needs of VIPs, returning guests, and IHG One Rewards members.
  • Resolving guest concerns promptly, professionally, and with genuine care to ensure complete guest satisfaction.
  • Managing inventories of housekeeping supplies, linens, and equipment to maintain appropriate stock levels while controlling costs, minimizing waste, and supporting sustainability initiatives.
  • Overseeing lost-and-found procedures to ensure items are accurately documented, securely stored, and returned to their owners whenever possible.
  • Developing and managing the department's annual operating budget, focusing on labor management, productivity, cost per occupied room, and overall financial performance.
  • Monitoring departmental expenses, labor productivity, and inventory controls to maximize operational efficiency and achieve budget targets.
  • Serving as Manager on Duty when required and performing other duties as assigned.
