The Director Homeport Operations - SDCA is responsible for the P&L of the business unit's area of operation (AOR), providing cost and fee guidance to the estimating team to profitably secure contract wins. This role serves as the Austal liaison for all government, commercial, and community business activities associated with west coast operations. The Director will provide leadership and guidance to management teams for all organizational operations in support of business activities under the AOR, and lead the management team in establishing fiscal targets and building forecasts. They will develop manpower plans and departmental targets with managers to support the forecast workload and predicted schedule demands. This position will also communicate and assist BD management in growing the west coast business across selected government and commercial revenue opportunities, and facilitate Navy BOA, MSC IDIQ, Emergent tasking, and warranty generated work item tasking. The Director will lead expansion efforts to obtain additional IDIQ contracts to broaden the revenue base, and oversee Post Shakedown Availabilities (PSA), DD-250 closures, Combat Systems Ships Qualifications and Trials (CSSQT), and Final Contracts Test (FCT). They will interface with and coordinate ship sustainment, maintenance planning, and repair efforts with industry partners and government entities. The Director will work with internal teams and subcontractors to execute service work on LCS / EPF vessels across various locations, ensuring smooth interaction between team members and external contractors. They will provide coordination, guidance, and direction for vessel requirements and new service generation. This role oversees executable schedule development, ensuring compliance with NAVSEA Std Items (NSI’s), and monitors work progress against published schedules. The Director is accountable for the development of a comprehensive QMS, ensuring compliance with quality processes and procedures, and departmental training supports the QMS and AUSA compliance. Daily communication with Program Managers and Project Leads is required to report status/concerns and initiate corrective action plans. The Director will monitor and validate rework and lessons learned processes for continuous improvement and represent Austal at Shipbuilder associations. They will liaise with City, County, officials, and agencies as required for permits, agreements, and contract commitments. The Director acts as a Compliance Champion, promoting a culture of compliance, monitoring for changes in laws/regulations, assisting in risk assessments, and developing/providing compliance training.
