Xcel Energy•Henderson, CO

About The Position

The Director Fleet Overhaul Management provides enterprise-level leadership and strategic direction for Xcel Energy’s Fleet Overhaul Management organization. The role is accountable for governance, prioritization, investment strategy, and performance of a generation fleet overhaul and outage portfolio exceeding $500 million. The Director leads multiple Regional Managers and enterprise support functions, establishing the operating model, decision rights, standards, and performance expectations for regional outage and overhaul planning and execution. As the enterprise owner of fleet overhaul and outage strategy, the Director makes and recommends portfolio-level tradeoffs across assets, regions, funding, workforce and contractor capacity, generation availability, and risk. The role translates corporate and Generation strategy into a multi-year fleet portfolio integrating Operations & Maintenance and Capital investments, with the goals of improving reliability and availability and optimizing asset value and lifecycle costs. The Director provides executive oversight of complex outage, modernization, and reliability programs, including projects exceeding $50 million, and intervenes when material enterprise risks require executive decisions or alignment. The Director serves as a senior advisor and primary enterprise interface to Generation leadership and partner organizations on outage strategy, investment priorities, resource constraints, portfolio risk, and long-term asset performance. The role also develops leadership capability and succession depth, and promotes safety, accountability, collaboration, disciplined decision-making, and continuous improvement across the regional overhaul organization. Minimum travel is 25%. Xcel Energy supports a hybrid work model; many roles are expected onsite three days per week, but expectations vary by role, team, and business needs.

  • Provide executive sponsorship and oversight for major overhauls, modernization programs, and strategic outage investments, focusing on enterprise risk, critical decisions, and recovery of materially off-plan initiatives.
  • Set fleet-wide policies, standards, controls, metrics, and performance expectations for outage readiness, execution, startup, closeout, risk management, cost and schedule performance, and continuous improvement.
  • Hold Regional Managers accountable for safe, predictable, financially disciplined execution; use portfolio data and business reviews to identify systemic risks, direct corrective action, and scale proven practices.
  • Lead executive alignment among Operations, Engineering, Asset Management, Commercial Operations, Finance, Environmental Services, Supply Chain, Transmission, Distribution, Gas, and other partners when decisions affect enterprise priorities or fleet outcomes.
  • Serve as executive owner for outage management capabilities, systems, analytics, digital tools, and process transformation, including approval of enterprise requirements, investment priorities, and adoption expectations.
  • Own portfolio outcomes including safety, generation availability, outage duration, schedule adherence, cost and forecast performance, capital efficiency, risk exposure, contractor strategy, and fleet reliability measures.
