About The Position

The Director, Finance (Provider Compensation) will collaborate with the Senior Director, Finance in leading all aspects of physician compensation for UPMC. This role will lead and develop the growing team in the standardization and documentation of processes including old and new compensation models, old and new pay administration, and the preparation of reporting, projections, analytics, internal and external audit support, as well as controllership and reconciliation. To successfully perform in this role, the incumbent must possess strong management, mentorship, communication, and organizational skills in addition to a strong understanding of healthcare, ideally with a focus on the physician side. The candidate must also have a strong ability to lead, manage, and mentor staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or related business field required.
  • 7 years of related work experience required.
  • 2 years managerial or supervisory experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and mentor an established but growing team in a collaborative environment to maximize efficiency and standardization of processes.
  • Represent the Physician Compensation Department as required with operational leadership.
  • Coordinate, analyze, and report on provider compensation initiatives for use with internal management while leading the organization towards standardization and developing strong process efficiencies and documentation.
  • Collaborate with clinical stakeholders to design, develop, and implement compensation strategies, processes, and models that support strategic objectives and promote competitive and equitable pay practices.
  • Investigate trends and lead benchmark analysis against industry standards to derive micro and macro recommendations to physician compensation expenses and processes.
  • Lead and train others to become process experts for the team, ensuring support and cross training for the team.
  • Communicate and educate stakeholders across the organization on best practices and key initiatives.
  • Effectively manage staff performing various financial reporting and analysis functions. Meet department's objectives by establishing patterns and organizing the work of the department, as well as coordinating with stakeholders from other departments to achieve goals.

  • Lead the team to meet deadlines and turnaround times set by management (these deadlines and turnaround times will, at times, require the employee to work until the project is completed, meaning extended daily work hours, extended work weeks, or both).
