About The Position

The Director, Finance & Accounting is a key strategic leader responsible for overseeing the financial planning, forecasting, reporting, and accounting operations of Precedent Land Canada. Working closely with the President, the Director provides financial leadership and insights that support business growth, profitability, and sound decision-making. This role is responsible for establishing and maintaining strong accounting practices, processes, and internal controls while helping drive the continued success of this growing, fast-paced division. This role is located at our Precedent Land Company Head Office located in Vaughan, Ontario.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or related discipline
  • CPA designation
  • 7–10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including senior management or leadership experience in a multi-divisional, matrixed organization, preferably within a public or private homebuilding or land development company
  • Demonstrated expertise in cost accounting within the homebuilding, construction, or land development industry
  • Advanced proficiency with financial systems, accounting software, and reporting tools, with a track record of optimizing processes and leveraging technology to enhance financial reporting and decision-making

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the Finance & Accounting team, ensuring accounting, financial controls, audit activities, and financial information are accurate, timely, and effectively analyzed and reported to management
  • Establish and implement consistent financial reporting policies, practices, and procedures across the organization’s landholdings, supporting accuracy, transparency, and consistency in financial reporting
  • Establish, maintain, and monitor effective internal controls to ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and financial governance requirements
  • Lead the monthly forecasting and planning process, partnering with operational and business leaders to assess performance against budget, identify risks and opportunities, evaluate mitigation strategies, and provide actionable recommendations to support financial and operational objectives
  • Lead the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes, ensuring the timely, accurate, and effective consolidation of project and community budgets
  • Lead the annual five-year business planning process, partnering with senior leadership to establish strategic priorities, assess growth opportunities, evaluate risks, and develop long-term financial and operational plans aligned with company objectives
  • Provide strategic financial insights and recommendations to senior leadership, translating financial results and business trends into actionable insights that support growth, profitability, and informed decision-making
