About The Position

The Director of Event Management and Facilities provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all athletic and institutional events, facilities management, and related operational functions at assigned facilities. This role is responsible for setting vision, developing policies, leading teams, and ensuring the highest standards of execution, safety, and customer service. The Director serves as the primary point of accountability for part-time staff, student workers and practicum students. The Director plays a critical role in event success and facility excellence while representing Liberty University with professionalism and integrity in alignment with its mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Event Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of progressive experience in event management and/or facilities operations.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams and large-scale events.
  • Strong working knowledge of facility management best practices, safety regulations, and operational compliance.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to professionally represent Liberty University to campus leaders, external partners, government agencies, and the community.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and strategic planning abilities.
  • Proficiency with scheduling systems, event management software, and reporting tools.
  • Proven ability to analyze complex operational situations and make sound, timely decisions.
  • Capable of managing crises and resolving issues under pressure.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Availability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
  • Use of one’s personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) may be required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position.
  • Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership for the planning, coordination, and execution of all athletic and special events.
  • Establish event management standards, best practices, and timelines to ensure consistent, high-quality outcomes.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with campus leadership, external clients, vendors, conference partners, and public safety entities.
  • Oversee event budgets, forecasting, contract negotiations, and financial controls.
  • Ensure staffing plans, logistics, and contingency strategies are in place for all events.
  • Direct the comprehensive management, maintenance, and long-term planning for assigned athletic and event facilities.
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs and prioritize capital improvement needs.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, building codes, and risk management standards.
  • Oversee equipment, inventory systems, and facility readiness for all scheduled activities.
  • Collaborate with internal campus departments on facility projects, renovations, and shared-use planning.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve operational policies and procedures for events and facilities.
  • Oversee scheduling systems, booking processes, and contract administration.
  • Analyze operational data, assess performance metrics, and prepare executive-level reports.
  • Lead crisis management and emergency response planning for events and facilities.
  • Ensure efficient utilization of space, personnel, and resources.
  • Provide direct leadership to part-time staff, student workers, and contracted personnel.
  • Lead hiring, onboarding, training, and professional development initiatives for part-time staff and student workers.
  • Establish performance expectations and conduct evaluations.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, servant leadership, and professional excellence.
  • Support mentorship opportunities for students and emerging professionals by working closely with SMGT program.
  • Serve as the point of contact for client relations and issue resolution at assigned venues.
  • Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction for all internal and external event stakeholders.
  • Conduct post-event reviews and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Represent Liberty University with professionalism in all public-facing interactions.
  • Provide oversight and leadership for part-time staff, student workers, volunteers, Rhino staffing, and LUPD coordination at assigned venues.
  • Collaborate with Athletic Events and Facilities leadership to ensure events operate efficiently and facilities are maintained at a high standard.
