About The Position

The Director, EHR Applications, is a member of the Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH) IT Service Line Leadership team, and is responsible for partnering with operational counterparts, contributing to and understanding strategic goals and working with IT leadership to execute on and maintain the technology road map for the departments they oversee with accountability for enterprise-wide results. The Director provides leadership, promotes collaboration, ensuring customer satisfaction results in strong team cohesion and positive morale. Possesses a strong understanding of the EHR system and healthcare landscape. In addition to working on mission-critical enterprise and departmental systems, projects/installations may encompass work across all divisions of BILH. Manages with financial responsibility and adherence to the BILH IT mission and vision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Certification in 1 or more Epic Applications.
  • 5+ years proven experience (demonstrating career progression) working in an Information Services Dept. or software vendor organization within the healthcare industry.
  • 2+ years of leadership and staff management experience.
  • Experience successfully managing and leading a team of information technology staff (direct/indirect reports) in both in person and remote environments.
  • Ability to make decisions with significant, broad implications for the management and operations of a major department or multiple departments.
  • Participates in decisions on overall strategy and direction of the organization.
  • Possess strong skills and technical capabilities in several IT domains.
  • Solution oriented with proven experience leveraging strong technical skills to ideate, identify, explain, advocate, and express solution options, recommendations, and facts for complex issues in a convincing manner in order to achieve results across BILH.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft applications, which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access, and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis, and maintain databases.
  • Strong understanding of Epic functionality and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the execution of the work set forth by the IT Senior Leadership team to support the mission and vision of overall health information technology application management to foster a business-oriented culture and mindset driven by continual service improvement techniques.
  • Owns understanding of upcoming EHR road map features and vetting with operational and IT leadership.
  • Oversees the implementation of EHR applications and related solutions. Contributes to strategic direction and oversight for the design, development, operation and support of EHR systems that fulfill business needs.
  • Contributes to the success of the IT organization by assuring excellent customer service and adherence to SLAs. Assures a culture of continuous improvement and maintains a deep connection with leadership.
  • Responsible for working on resource allocation within direct org chart. Partners with other EHR leaders to understand and impact prioritization; understands level of effort related to projects and objectives and current workload of direct reports.
  • Directly supports EHR application projects, day to day operations and break fix issues across BILH.
  • Monitors all functions of department ensuring services are in compliance with professional standards and state and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for the HR aspect of team management including talent acquisition and retention, reviews and necessary performance improvement activities. Works with EHR Directors to provide education and trainings to the staff for well implemented EHR systems. Manages contract staff when necessary.
  • Serves on hospital planning and policymaking committees; assures EHR function matches policies set for the organization.
  • Has the authority to direct and support managers with functional area responsibilities. Has the direct responsibility to undertake the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews.
  • Additional leadership functions and roles may be assigned including but not limited to: Project Roles for BILH level projects; Key contact/liaison for IT vendors and/or specific Hospital or BILH Departments.
