About The Position

The Director of Engineering, Maintenance & Facilities is responsible for leading the execution of engineering, maintenance, and facilities management programs across a designated region of distribution and logistics facilities. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, Maintenance & Facilities, this role ensures the reliability, availability, capacity, and performance of facility infrastructure and automation systems while supporting operational, quality, safety, and financial objectives. The Director will lead a team of maintenance managers, facilities managers, supervisors, and technical professionals to drive maintenance excellence, equipment reliability, asset lifecycle management, safety performance, and operational efficiency. The role works closely with Operations, Finance, Procurement, Real Estate, and external service providers to ensure consistent execution of maintenance strategies and continuous improvement initiatives. This position is responsible for regional maintenance and facilities budgets, capital project execution, contractor management, preventive and predictive maintenance programs, and enterprise asset management system compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related technical field required.
  • 7-10 years of progressive engineering, maintenance, and facilities leadership experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years leading multi-site maintenance or facilities operations in a logistics, distribution, manufacturing, or automated warehouse environment.
  • Experience leading maintenance teams supporting automated material handling systems and facility infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated success managing operating budgets, capital projects, and contractor relationships.
  • Experience with labor management and employee development.
  • Strong understanding of maintenance and reliability best practices.
  • Working knowledge of preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance methodologies.
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Continuous Improvement, and Root Cause Analysis techniques.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, building codes, and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities across numerous sites.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Enterprise Asset Management (EAM/CMMS) systems.
  • Must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the regional leader for engineering, maintenance, and facilities operations across multiple sites.
  • Execute the strategic vision and maintenance standards established by the Head of Engineering, Maintenance & Facilities.
  • Ensure maximum availability, reliability, and performance of automated, semi-automated, and facility support systems.
  • Lead maintenance and facilities teams in achieving operational, safety, quality, and financial objectives.
  • Build a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
  • Develop leadership capabilities and succession plans for maintenance and facilities personnel.
  • Implement and sustain preventive, predictive, and reliability-centered maintenance programs.
  • Monitor asset performance and drive improvements in equipment uptime, availability, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  • Analyze maintenance performance metrics and implement corrective actions to address recurring equipment failures.
  • Ensure standardized maintenance processes and best practices are consistently followed across all facilities.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), TPM, and Reliability Engineering methodologies.
  • Oversee the maintenance of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, refrigeration, and material handling infrastructure.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable building codes, environmental regulations, and safety requirements.
  • Coordinate facility repairs, vendor services, and infrastructure improvement projects.
  • Support site expansion, retrofit, and facility improvement initiatives.
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety-first culture throughout the region.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental, fire safety, and company regulations.
  • Lead investigations of maintenance-related incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Conduct routine audits and inspections to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Manage regional maintenance and facilities operating budgets.
  • Control maintenance labor, third-party contractor, spare parts, and repair expenditures.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction while maintaining system reliability and operational effectiveness.
  • Support capital planning and manage execution of approved capital projects.
  • Lead, coach, and develop Maintenance Managers, Facilities Managers, Reliability Engineers, and Site Maintenance Leaders.
  • Conduct performance reviews and establish development plans for direct reports.
  • Foster employee engagement, retention, and technical development.
  • Support recruiting efforts and build technical talent pipelines.
  • Ensure effective utilization of the company's Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) and Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Monitor work order completion, PM compliance, asset data integrity, and maintenance planning effectiveness.
  • Drive standardization and adoption of maintenance systems, procedures, and reporting practices.
  • Manage relationships with equipment manufacturers, contractors, service providers, and suppliers.
  • Ensure vendors meet contractual obligations, safety requirements, and performance expectations.
  • Support sourcing initiatives and maintenance service agreements in partnership with Procurement.
