About The Position

The Director of Emergency Services ensures high quality, patient-centered care through oversight of the overall function and staffing of the unit(s) and department(s) and by forecasting, planning, and monitoring the budget. This role fosters a culture of accountability and collaboration and supports the development and implementation of strategies, policies, and procedures in alignment with facility objectives. Mission Hospital, a member of Mission Health, an operating division of HCA Healthcare, located in Asheville, North Carolina, serves as the regional tertiary and quaternary care center in Western North Carolina and the adjoining region. Mission Hospital is licensed for 853 beds and is the region's only trauma center, comprehensive stroke center, Level III neonatal intensive care unit, and includes the only children's hospital in Western North Carolina. Mission Hospital is also a Magnet® designated hospital for nursing excellence.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in nursing
3+ years applicable acute care leadership experience required
5+ years applicable Emergency Services experience required
Regulatory compliance expertise — Must demonstrate solid, hands‑on knowledge of regulatory standards relevant to emergency services.
Trauma leadership experience — Must have served as a Director (or equivalent leadership role) in a Level I or Level II trauma center within a large, high‑volume ER comparable to Mission.
Minimum tenure requirement — Candidates with fewer than 3–5 years of the above trauma leadership experience will not be considered.
Performance metrics on résumé — Quantifiable outcomes (KPIs, improvements, operational metrics) must be included.
Stable work history — Candidates with a pattern of frequent job changes (every 1–2 years) will not move forward.

Directs nursing practice and unit operations.
Develops policies, procedures, and nursing standards to ensure patient and family needs are assessed, met, and evaluated.
Provides leadership in attaining and sustaining an unparalleled patient experience.
Instills accountability for providing consistent, positive patient interactions that differentiate the organization as a healthcare leader.
Leverages various feedback mechanisms to benchmark performance and identify opportunities to improve customer/patient satisfaction.

Ensures effective labor management, including position control, scheduling excellence, productivity management, and premium pay utilization.
Maintains staffing to ensure appropriate patient care.
Manages operating expenses, including the utilization of supplies and equipment.
Identifies cost reduction opportunities and implements actions to achieve savings.
Performs other duties as assigned.
