About The Position

A healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Emergency Department Nursing Director to provide strategic and operational leadership for a high-acuity Emergency Department. This position is designed for an accomplished RN leader who combines strong emergency nursing expertise with approachable leadership, sound clinical judgment, staff development capabilities, and the ability to manage complex departmental operations. The Director will oversee clinical operations, workforce performance, regulatory compliance, departmental resources, budgeting, and continuous improvement while maintaining a collaborative and supportive environment for nursing staff and physician partners.

Requirements

  • Current Arizona Registered Nurse license or Compact RN License with Arizona endorsement.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing school.
  • Current BCLS certification.
  • Current ACLS certification.
  • Current PALS certification.
  • Current TNCC certification.
  • Current Handle with Care certification.
  • Professional nursing experience within an Emergency Department.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience specifically within an Emergency Department environment.
  • Strong clinical judgment and critical-thinking capabilities.
  • Ability to lead staff effectively in a fast-paced and high-acuity clinical setting.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Nursing or another relevant field.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for Emergency Department operations.
  • Lead and support nursing staff in a high-acuity emergency care environment.
  • Manage employee relations, performance management, staff engagement, and conflict resolution.
  • Oversee staff scheduling, recruitment, payroll activities, professional development, and student engagements.
  • Promote a collaborative environment between nursing staff, physicians, and hospital leadership.
  • Maintain an accessible and supportive leadership approach for departmental staff.
  • Monitor departmental budgets, resource utilization, and operational performance.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable clinical, regulatory, and organizational standards.
  • Manage departmental contracts and vendor relationships.
  • Evaluate and justify requirements for systems, equipment, supplies, and other departmental resources.
  • Monitor appropriate utilization and availability of equipment and supplies.
  • Integrate evidence-based practices into clinical operations and departmental protocols.
  • Create an environment that supports professional growth, accountability, and high-quality patient care.
