About The Position

CHEO is a global leader in pediatric health, serving over 500,000 children and youth annually. The Director, Emergency Department will lead a critical area of the organization, shaping care delivery during high-impact moments for children and youth. This role involves reimagining flow, access, and experience in a fast-paced, high-acuity setting, working collaboratively with families, physicians, and front-line teams to improve outcomes and foster a supportive culture. The ideal candidate is a visible, trusted leader with a people-centered approach, capable of balancing strategy with execution, and driving sustained change, ideally with experience in Lean thinking and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Minimum of eight years of progressive healthcare experience
  • At least five years in a leadership role
  • Strong understanding of high-acuity hospital environments
  • Degree in a relevant discipline (nursing preferred)
  • Expertise in quality improvement, patient safety, and risk management
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to lead in complex, evolving environments

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree
  • Bilingualism (French/English)
  • Experience in Lean thinking and continuous improvement
