About The Position

In conjunction with thought leaders throughout Northern Arizona Healthcare, the Director of Education leads the creation of competency based educational curriculum that meets and whenever possible exceeds the professional practice standards for various professions, identifies effective/cost efficient delivery methodologies that are learner paced, and postures the department as the organization’s educational resource center.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a clinical healthcare field (e.g., Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, Behavioral Health) – Required.
  • Master’s degree – Required.
  • 3 years of people management experience in healthcare – Required.
  • Experience in clinical education (e.g., training students, developing curriculum and competency assessment tools, etc.) – Required.
  • Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
  • AZ valid clinical professional license – Required.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in clinical practice area and/or leadership (NEBC or FACHE) – Preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Leads efforts to continually design and implement superior education designs and curriculum based on evidence-based practices that prepare Northern Arizona Healthcare staff to maintain the highest standards of professional practice in the healthcare industry.
  • Leads the continued examination and delivery of timely certification/recertification program offerings that ensure a level of competency and continuity that results in ongoing staff preparedness and patient and staff safety.
  • Partners with operational leaders in the identification and evaluating of staff to serve as educators and preceptors in the delivery of various unit based and organization-wide educational offerings.
  • Collaborates with recruitment and the division of nursing in the efficient assessment and placement of nursing resources (new graduates as well as experienced new hires) that results in efficient on-boarding of highly capable staff to meet the organization’s clinical staffing needs.
  • Partners with the Employee Relations staff in the development and delivery of leadership development seminars designed to improve leadership throughout the organization as measured by the achievement of industry benchmarked turnover percentages as well as top quartile employee engagement results.
  • Evaluates the performance of Education department staff as well as system-wide educators in accordance with established performance standards, goals, job responsibilities and assigned functions; provides ongoing performance feedback and annual written performance evaluation; and identifies and nurtures those capable of performing at higher levels.
  • Develops and continually monitors an annual budget designed to achieve the organization’s educational objectives.
  • Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.
  • Continually remains knowledgeable of applicable Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations; regulatory standards; the organization’s policies and procedures; and the Code of Conduct to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.
  • Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.
  • Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.
  • If required for the position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.
  • Ensures the establishment, monitoring and periodic revisions to a colleague safety program that establishes colleague safety as a key organizational priority. Actions include the timely reporting of safety-related incidents through the Midas/RDE tool; staff attendance at all safety-related training programs; the ongoing review of safety metrics, as well as the implementation of initiatives designed to address safety-related concerns and/or trends.
