About The Position

The EPS has a significant responsibility to the public and you’ll be working at that vital interface, strengthening the trust and relationships between the Service and our many stakeholders. There will be days when you feel stretched, but many more days that you’ll feel pride as you see and feel your impact within the Service and the community. The Director of the Digital Media and Public Affairs Branch will be a chief creator critical to the internal and external communication activities of EPS. In this position, you will provide guidance and vision to a dedicated team of communication professionals, bringing to life the content, stories, campaigns and connections that are central to EPS. More broadly, you are part of a senior leadership team that advances the Service’s Strategic Plan and the role of EPS in the community.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in communications, marketing, journalism, or a similar field.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of senior experience in a large organization, including experience in strategic communication planning, marketing and social marketing strategies, digital communications and production.
  • Models the value system of the organization and demonstrates a high proficiency of organizational leadership competencies.
  • Strong understanding of current and historic events will impact EPS and law enforcement in general.
  • Ability to develop and influence both internal and external stakeholders through effective partnerships, including strong negotiation and consultation skills.
  • Ability to clearly articulate, advocate, and inspire support for the organization’s mission and initiatives, throughout the organization.
  • Exemplifies agility in thinking to re-prioritize and adapt strategy/approaches in dynamic situations.
  • Ability to foster an organizational culture of engagement, accountability, positive achievements and continuous learning and development.
  • Extensive experience in successfully managing human, financial and material resources.

Responsibilities

  • Providing oversight to the Digital Media and Public Affairs Units, which are responsible for production, marketing, executive communications, internal communications, edmontonpolice.ca and the employee intranet.
  • Effectively anticipating, planning for and responding to ongoing and changing trends, demands, and organizational needs.
  • Ensuring the EPS brand and story is reflected consistently and accurately across all channels.
  • Working with Division leadership to facilitate timely and effective communication in time sensitive situations that are matters of public safety and/or public interest.
  • Attracting, developing, evaluating, and retaining high-calibre employees, and fostering a healthy and positive work environment that promotes respect, professionalism, and quality client service.
  • Maintaining effective information flows to/from the Executive Director and members of Executive, including the Chief and Deputy Chiefs.
  • Developing communication and marketing strategies for far-reaching community issues and organizational initiatives.
  • Building and maintaining key relationships inside and outside the organization, including with the Edmonton Police Commission, the City of Edmonton, the Edmonton Police Foundation and various community groups, service providers and businesses.
