About The Position

Gastops is seeking a Director – Defence to serve as a key member of the business unit’s leadership team. This role is based in Ottawa, ON, or Dartmouth, NS. The Director will participate in strategic planning, operational decision making, and drive execution across defence market segments. The individual will lead a high-performing team to identify, shape, and win new business opportunities, positioning Gastops for long-term growth in the Canadian Defence market, as well as global naval and land vehicle applications. Gastops has been a recognized worldwide innovator in equipment health management for over 47 years, serving industries such as defence, aviation, energy, marine, industrial, and transportation. Their products and services add value throughout the lifecycle of complex critical equipment, from design to in-service operations and support, including advanced equipment sensing and analysis products like oil debris sensors, turbine blade health sensors, and oil analysis systems, delivering world-class diagnostics and prognostics.

Requirements

  • A trusted relationship builder with proven ability to develop champions inside complex defence organizations.
  • Deeply connected in the defence market with an existing network of decision makers, influencers, ecosystem partners and the credibility to open doors at senior levels.
  • Skilled at uncovering real operational needs and translating them into actionable internal requirements and ensuring the customers voice meaningfully shapes product and service strategies.
  • Demonstrated success in identifying, shaping and winning defence programs and sustainment opportunities.
  • 5+ years experience managing a sales team.
  • 10+ years experience in the defence space delivering highly technical solutions.
  • Strong business acumen, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong and concise verbal presentation and written skills.
  • Self-starter who is energetic, enthusiastic, adaptable and a customer-oriented team player.
  • Excellent time management skills, ability to establish and meet work priorities and deadlines.
  • Proven ability to solve hard problems and experience with business considerations for complex hardware and software products.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute annual and long-range business plans across assigned defence market segments.
  • Meet short- and long-term growth objectives for orders and revenue.
  • Stay informed about current customer requirements, anticipated future customer requirements, market trends and competitive activity to anticipate changes and adjust strategy as necessary to continue to grow.
  • Engage with a diverse customer community as a thought leader to identify, evaluate and shape new business opportunities using market intelligence, customer requirements, and competitive intel.
  • Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities across assigned markets.
  • Lead cross-functional efforts to shape, bid, win, and execute opportunities.
  • Build and maintain a robust opportunity pipeline, including forecasting, strategic account planning, and status reporting.
  • Ensure effective collaboration across Gastops departments to support successful opportunity capture and delivery.
  • Develop and manage strategic partnerships with key defence OEMs and operators.
  • Establish and strengthen relationships with customer influencers, champions, and decision-makers.
  • Position Gastops as a trusted technology solutions provider through ongoing customer engagement and value creation.
  • Represent Gastops at industry events, trade shows, and customer engagements to increase market awareness and customer mindshare.
  • Contribute to product and technology roadmap development to ensure alignment with customer requirements, program milestones, and market needs.
  • Monitor emerging trends and competitive developments to inform future product strategies.
  • Build long-term business success through strategic product planning and market-driven innovation.
  • Sponsor and oversee engineering projects as the internal customer for internally and externally funded initiatives.
  • Partner with engineering and functional leaders to ensure successful delivery of defence products and services.
  • Lead and manage marketing and sales activities within assigned market areas.
  • Align organizational resources and priorities to support business objectives and customer commitments.
  • Lead, mentor and develop high-potential talent to strengthen organizational capability and succession planning.
  • Support Gastops’ objectives to attract, develop, and retain exceptional talent.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and long-term business success.
  • Travel as required (approximately 25%) to support customer engagements, strategic partnerships, industry events, and team activities.
