About The Position

In support of the world’s leading medical relief charity, the Director of Corporate Engagement will work closely with DR’s leadership and staff to help determine and drive corporate interactions with leading global pharmaceutical and healthcare companies. S/he will act as liaison for various existing Direct Relief (DR) corporate accounts to increase medical product resources, while implementing the organization’s strategy for growth and enhanced reputation. The position will represent DR to external constituents and stakeholders; support DR’s expansion in regions with opportunities for resource and programmatic expansion; develop and strengthen relationships with healthcare providers at both the national and international levels including product donors, governments, agencies, organizations, associations, and funders; support corporate donor visits to areas being assisted; and identify opportunities for collaboration that expand DR’s presence and network globally. S/he will help manage and implement CE’s departmental strategy and priorities to ensure the most efficient and effective execution of DR’s work, including overseeing select staff within the CE department, as needed. This role will primarily support the interaction and engagement of companies and other stakeholders within the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries that contribute resources (pharmaceuticals, medical devices and consumables, emergency products, employee engagement opportunities, and financial contributions) to DR’s global healthcare provider network. The position will focus on strengthening and expanding existing partnerships while also growing the number of new healthcare companies contributing to DR’s work. This is both an internal and external facing position that proactively builds and manages relationships to secure healthcare company support and collaboration that advance the medical relief focused work of DR, while also contributing to the department’s internal operational efficiency. Other related responsibilities and duties may be assigned as needed. Role to be located in Santa Barbara, CA, or Chicago, or NY area.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree with at least 8 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry (business development, marketing and sales, corporate relations, clinic trials, etc.)
  • Fluency in English is required
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multifunctional team
  • Ability to work and interact with multiple senior-level external stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple competing interests/ tasks and prioritize accordingly.
  • Cross cultural leadership ability with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capable / comfortable with public speaking and representing DR in public settings
  • Ability to command the confidence and respect of an audience.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to be detail and task oriented.
  • Proficient with computers and standard software applications such as Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience in report generation and analysis of outcomes.
  • Ability to pass a Background Check.

Responsibilities

  • Collaboration with the Corporate Engagement VP and DR Leadership team to develop or implement DR’s strategy to effectively and efficiently secure medical product donations globally
  • Responsibility for managing a portfolio of corporate healthcare company relationships that support DR’s programmatic work and activities
  • Management of assigned CE staff members to support their development and effectiveness as DR team members, including individuals based in the US and overseas
  • Research healthcare companies’ ESG / CSR strategy and therapeutic focus areas to identify synergistic areas that align with DR’s mission, focus, and programs
  • Support conception, development, and pitching of programmatic ideas to expand corporate collaboration with DR, as well as making of targeted requests around company’s portfolio
  • Provide insight and context around key issues relevant to DR's ability to secure resources, then communicate these findings, as appropriate, both verbally and in writing to internal and external audiences.
  • Identify and initiate contact with prospective corporate partners, including setting up introductory calls and meetings, presenting background information about DR’s capabilities, and relationships, and helping manage ongoing correspondence and relationship development in an organized and efficient manner.
  • Conduct substantive in-person meetings with leading healthcare companies to brief them on DR, review past support, assess impact, and discuss growth opportunities, demonstrating strong institutional knowledge of DR and its work
  • Represent DR at industry conferences, forums and meetings, as needed
  • Help identify and implement donor communication opportunities to highlight DR healthcare companies, coordinating with DR communications staff on development of articles, social media, videos or other PR
  • Help coordinate- and at times lead- healthcare company donor site visits to domestic or overseas locations where their contributions support DR’s work, while assisting in capturing the impact of those donations (testimonials, photos, etc.).
  • Collaborate effectively and professionally with various DR teams, including Programs, Emergency Response, Pharmacy, Legal, Compliance, Finance, Communications, etc.
  • Collaborate on the setting of healthcare company fundraising goals and support the implementation to secure those contributions
