About The Position

The role of Commissioning Director directly supports Nordex's mission to develop and deliver clean power plants that make 100% renewable energy a reality for the world. As the Commissioning Director, you will provide strategic leadership for the North American Commissioning organization, overseeing all commissioning activities supporting utility-scale wind energy projects. You will drive operational excellence, workforce development, technical expertise, safety performance, quality compliance, and customer satisfaction while ensuring the organization is positioned to support current and future business growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Engineering Technology, Business Administration, Project Management, or a related field required.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in wind turbine commissioning, construction, operations, or project execution leadership.
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience managing commissioning teams, technical field organizations, or project execution groups.
  • Proven success leading large technical organizations consisting of 20+ field resources across multiple projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of wind turbine commissioning and utility-scale renewable energy projects.
  • Strong workforce planning, resource management, budgeting, and contractor management experience.
  • Experience developing training, competency management, and succession planning programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop leaders and technical experts through mentoring and coaching.
  • Strong stakeholder management, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Strong business acumen and financial management capabilities.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
  • English proficiency required; Spanish, French, or German language skills are considered an asset.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 35%.
  • Passport required or ability to obtain one.
  • Ability to visit active construction and commissioning sites and meet site access requirements.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-project environment.
  • Driving is an essential function of the job. Must possess a full valid driver's license and be insurable under our auto insurance policy. This position will be subject to periodic driver's abstract checks to confirm continued insurability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute the North American Commissioning strategy.
  • Build and develop a high-performing commissioning organization capable of supporting business growth.
  • Establish departmental objectives, KPIs, operating standards, and performance expectations.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead workforce planning, resource forecasting, staffing, onboarding, succession planning, and retention initiatives.
  • Optimize workforce utilization across active projects and manage contractor integration.
  • Oversee commissioning training, competency development, certification tracking, and career progression programs.
  • Mentor and develop leaders and technical experts throughout the commissioning organization.
  • Ensure successful implementation of new turbine technologies, engineering changes, software updates, and commissioning processes.
  • Provide executive oversight of technical support activities and complex issue resolution.
  • Establish technical governance processes, best practices, and lessons-learned programs.
  • Support project readiness reviews and commissioning execution planning.
  • Monitor commissioning performance and implement mitigation strategies when challenges impact project schedules.
  • Partner with Construction, Engineering, Quality, Logistics, Materials, Tooling, Service Operations, and Executive Leadership teams.
  • Support customer-facing commissioning activities and technical discussions.
  • Ensure successful project commissioning, TSA milestone achievement, and customer handover.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of and commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate potential safety hazards.
  • Properly use applicable safety equipment, including but not limited to eye protection, hearing protectors, steel-toe boots, and hard hats. Loose-fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and management to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Speak and understand English fluently to effectively communicate safety and job-related information, follow safety instructions, and collaborate with English-speaking supervisors and team members.
