About The Position

New York Life Real Estate Investors (NYL REI) is the real estate investment platform within New York Life Investment Management. With over $73.2 billion in assets under management as of December 31, 2025, NYL REI invests across real estate equity, debt and securities strategies, serving institutional investors and the New York Life General Account. Leveraging more than a century of real estate investment experience, New York Life Real Estate Investors (“REI”) believes that investment principles which incorporate sustainability best practices promote favorable relative returns for our clients over the long term. The primary focus of the Real Estate Debt Team is the origination and management of commercial real estate related debt products, including mortgage loans (fixed and floating rate) and structured debt investments (including construction and bridge loans), which are typically secured by industrial, multi-family, retail, office, and hotel properties. The Southeast Regional Office is responsible for commercial mortgage origination and portfolio management efforts for the Southeast U.S. The Southeast Regional Office territory is comprised of 11 states and markets such as Atlanta, Miami, Orlando, Charlotte, Raleigh, and Nashville. Over the past four years, the Southeastern Regional Office has originated approximately $6.6 billion of fixed and floating rate mortgages including core and high yield/bridge loans on a variety of properties, working with top tier owners, developers, investment advisors, pension funds, private equity firms, and mortgage brokers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s and or Master’s degree in Finance, Real Estate, Accounting, or a related field preferred
  • 7 to 10 years of experience as a commercial mortgage underwriter or originator
  • Experience preferably with a major financial institution or mortgage brokerage company
  • Proven track record in commercial mortgage loan originations
  • Strong work ethic
  • Ability to work well in a team setting

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Southeast real estate markets and commercial properties including, but not limited to, industrial, retail, multi-family, office, and hotels is a plus.
  • Construction lending and/or structured lending experience desired
  • Industry recognized designations such as CCIM or CFA, or progress toward one, is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Excellent analytical, quantitative and technical skills, including the ability to analyze, underwrite and forecast property cash flows and valuations using Argus and Excel software.
  • The ability to size and price loans with proper structural features and negotiate term sheets and loan commitments.
  • Successful track record and experience in the commercial mortgage loan origination, due diligence, and loan closing/negotiation processes.
  • Team player who is organized, efficient, proactive, conscientious and assumes accountability and responsibility for specific performance and work product.
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship-building skills, and marketing skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Creative problem-solver with strong research skills.
  • The ability to gather, analyze, and interpret real estate market data/trends and financial information.
  • The ability to independently and proactively interact with, and gather data from borrowers, brokers, property managers, appraisers, attorneys, and other real estate professionals.
  • The ability to multi-task and effectively respond to changes in workflow, priorities and workload in a team environment.
