About The Position

New York Life Real Estate Investors (NYL REI) is the real estate investment platform within NYLIM, managing over $73.2 billion in assets. NYL REI invests across real estate equity, debt, and securities strategies. The Real Estate Debt Team focuses on originating and managing commercial real estate debt products, including mortgage loans and structured debt investments, typically secured by various property types. The Southeast Regional Office is responsible for commercial mortgage origination and portfolio management for the Southeast U.S., having originated approximately $6.6 billion in mortgages over the past four years.

Requirements

  • Excellent analytical, quantitative, and technical skills.
  • Successful track record and experience in the commercial mortgage loan origination, due diligence, and loan closing/negotiation processes.
  • Team player who is organized, efficient, proactive, conscientious and assumes accountability and responsibility for specific performance and work product.
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship-building skills, and marketing skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Creative problem-solver with strong research skills.
  • Bachelor's and or Master’s degree in Finance, Real Estate, Accounting, or a related field preferred.
  • 7 to 10 years of experience as a commercial mortgage underwriter or originator.
  • Experience preferably with a major financial institution or mortgage brokerage company.
  • Proven track record in commercial mortgage loan originations.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work well in a team setting.
  • Travel in this role is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Southeast real estate markets and commercial properties including, but not limited to, industrial, retail, multi-family, office, and hotels is a plus.
  • Construction lending and/or structured lending experience desired.
  • Industry recognized designations such as CCIM or CFA, or progress toward one, is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, underwrite, and forecast property cash flows and valuations using Argus and Excel software.
  • Size and price loans with proper structural features and negotiate term sheets and loan commitments.
  • Manage commercial mortgage loan origination, due diligence, and loan closing/negotiation processes.
  • Gather, analyze, and interpret real estate market data/trends and financial information.
  • Independently and proactively interact with, and gather data from, borrowers, brokers, property managers, appraisers, attorneys, and other real estate professionals.
  • Multi-task and effectively respond to changes in workflow, priorities, and workload in a team environment.
