About The Position

The Director of Clinical Excellence within the Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO) will lead enterprise-wide clinical initiatives focused on improving quality, patient safety, operational efficiency, and cross-functional integration across the health system. This role serves as a strategic partner to clinical, operational, and executive leadership, ensuring that high-impact clinical priorities are executed through disciplined project and program management practices. The Director will oversee complex, multi-entity initiatives and drive standardization of project execution across clinical domains, working closely with IT, Revenue Cycle, clinical leadership, and EPMO partners. This position requires demonstrated project management leadership and the ability to deliver measurable outcomes using best practices such as Agile methodologies, Lean principles, and structured governance frameworks. This role will partner closely with EPMO leadership to advance “systemness” by aligning project delivery approaches, strengthening governance, and ensuring consistency in execution across all entities.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree (Master’s or higher) in Healthcare Administration, Nursing, Public Health, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare operations, clinical improvement, and enterprise-level project/program management.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives in large, matrixed healthcare environments (preferably $5B+ systems).

Responsibilities

  • Lead large-scale, enterprise clinical transformation initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy, quality goals, and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with clinical, operational, IT, and revenue cycle leaders to assess, design, and implement process improvement and care delivery optimization efforts.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for complex implementations, including clinical systems, workflow redesign, and integration initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the EPMO to establish and enforce governance, project controls, and portfolio management standards across clinical initiatives.
  • Demonstrate strong project management leadership by guiding interdisciplinary teams through all phases of project delivery (intake, planning, execution, and sustainment).
  • Apply Lean, Agile, and continuous improvement methodologies to enhance clinical and operational performance.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to project managers and clinical leaders, offering data-driven insights to support executive decision-making.
  • Oversee risk, issue, and change management strategies to ensure successful and sustainable outcomes.
  • Establish, monitor, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) tied to clinical quality, safety, and operational excellence.
  • Facilitate integration and alignment across business units to support enterprise-wide clinical transformation and growth initiatives.
  • Promote best practices in project execution, governance, and clinical performance improvement across the organization.
  • Support change management and stakeholder engagement strategies to drive adoption and sustain outcomes.
  • Occasional travel within the state of Maryland based on project and leadership needs.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
