Director, Chief of Staff

About The Position

The Chief of Staff to MongoDB’s Chief Information Officer is a senior operator who multiplies the CIO’s impact. The role runs the operating rhythm of the Office of the CIO, leads the IT Program Management Office (ITPMO) governing the IT portfolio, and drives strategic program execution. The position combines strategic direction with hands-on execution: shaping the CIO’s agenda, translating IT strategy into plans and measurable outcomes, ensuring timely decisions and follow-through, and building mechanisms that help IT scale. The role works directly with executives and leadership teams across MongoDB, including outside the IT organization. Candidates should be based in Palo Alto, California, for the company’s hybrid working model. The position leads the ITPMO team and the Executive Administrators supporting IT VPs, and partners with Finance, HR, IT leaders, Chiefs of Staff, and business-unit leaders. It is a senior operator role, rather than a project management or administrative role.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in management consulting, strategy and operations, IT or enterprise program or portfolio management, or chief of staff roles; ideally at a high-growth technology company.
  • Experience leading a team, including managers or professionals in program management and/or executive support, and a track record of developing talent.
  • Experience supporting or advising senior executives and credibility operating in executive forums; ability to influence without authority.

  • Financial acumen and comfort with budgets, forecasting, and investment prioritization.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including creating board-ready materials that turn complex information into clear recommendations.
  • Strong analytical and systems-thinking skills, with the ability to use data to guide trade-offs and design for scale.
