About The Position

The Director of Center of Excellence (CoE) is a senior leadership role responsible for leading a unified technology and cybersecurity organization across a rapidly growing company. The Director owns the full breadth of the CoE, cybersecurity, systems administration, and product support, providing a single accountable point of leadership for secure, compliant, and reliable delivery across all products and programs. Anchored in cybersecurity expertise, this leader guides organizational restructuring as product lines expand and ensures seamless alignment across Security, IT, Product Development, Business Development, and Business Units. The ideal candidate is an experienced people leader with deep cybersecurity expertise and broad technical operations command, capable of managing large cross-functional teams, navigating complex workforce planning, and sustaining a high-performing culture.

Requirements

  • Must be a US citizen with an active Secret-level security clearance or higher.
  • 10+ years of experience in cybersecurity, including operational leadership roles.
  • Proven experience managing teams of 40 or more across diverse technical functions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Security, Computer Science, or a related technical field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in organizational change management, team restructuring, or scaling technical organizations.
  • Proven background advising technical and executive stakeholders on technology and cybersecurity strategy, risk, and mitigation approaches.
  • Experience managing resource allocation across multiple workstreams, such as products, proposals, and project-based initiatives.
  • Deep understanding of cybersecurity frameworks, best practices, and emerging threats.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to provide clear strategic direction to senior leadership and technical teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to address personnel challenges with fairness and consistency.

Nice To Haves

  • CISSP, CISM, or similar advanced cybersecurity certifications.
  • Project Management or Agile Scrum Master certification.
  • Experience with ATO and FedRAMP authorization processes, particularly in support of cloud-based product offerings.
  • Experience overseeing systems administration and/or product support functions in a technical organization.
  • Experience supporting proposal development and customer-facing cybersecurity assessments.
  • Background in leading Centers of Excellence or similar functional organizations.
  • Experience applying AI or machine learning concepts within cybersecurity workflows, such as threat detection, behavioral analytics, or automated incident response.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a Center of Excellence organization of 40+ employees spanning cybersecurity, systems administration, and product support, ensuring strong performance, clear goals, and continuous professional growth.
  • Drive the strategic vision and execution of the CoE to support enterprise security, infrastructure, and product needs as the organization scales.
  • Manage organizational change and restructuring efforts as product teams grow, ensuring roles, processes, and responsibilities evolve effectively.
  • Oversee workforce planning, including allocation of staff across projects, proposals, and product initiatives to optimize team utilization and delivery.
  • Handle day-to-day employee matters, including performance management, conflict resolution, and coaching, fostering a positive and accountable culture.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners across Product Development, Business Development, IT, and Business Units to align capabilities with broader business priorities.
  • Provide executive-level reporting on capability maturity, risks, and progress against organizational objectives.
  • Serve as a trusted cybersecurity expert to leadership, product teams, and technical stakeholders, providing guidance on risk, strategy, and best practices.
  • Evaluate emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and technologies to inform strategic decision-making and strengthen the organization’s security posture.
  • Advise on cybersecurity architecture, frameworks, and controls to ensure alignment with regulatory, customer, and mission requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external cybersecurity standards, frameworks, and governance requirements.
  • Oversee the systems administration function, ensuring the availability, integrity, and security of infrastructure and platform environments.
  • Ensure system hardening, patching, and configuration management align with applicable security frameworks and authorization requirements.
  • Maintain readiness for classified and sensitive programs, ensuring team members meet appropriate clearance requirements.
  • Oversee the product support function, ensuring responsive, high-quality support across the full product portfolio.
  • Guide support practices that uphold security and compliance obligations, including cloud authorization requirements such as Authorities to Operate (ATO’s) and FedRAMP.
  • Partner with Product Development and Solutions Engineering teams to translate customer issues into roadmap and reliability improvements.
