About The Position

USA Triathlon is seeking a Director of Brand, Content & Fandom to lead brand strategy, storytelling, and audience engagement across its brands: USA Triathlon, USA TRI, and the USA Triathlon Foundation. This role is crucial in amplifying the sport leading up to the LA 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The position involves celebrating age group athletes, clubs, coaches, and youth for USA Triathlon; promoting elite and development athletes for USA TRI; and connecting with donors through compelling stories for the Foundation. The core objective is to integrate these brands, transforming elite inspiration into grassroots participation and audiences into fans, members, donors, and partners. This is a "build" role, requiring the creation of a content engine from scratch to leverage the "home Games" opportunity. The ideal candidate will set high standards, lead a small team effectively, and operate efficiently with modest resources, aiming to benefit the sport, athletes, and the organization long-term.

Requirements

  • 8–10+ years in brand, content, marketing, or communications, with significant leadership experience.
  • A track record of leading teams to success and upskilling existing teams.
  • Proven success building a content operation that published consistently and grew audience and engagement.
  • Strong story instincts and creative direction across social, video, digital, editorial, and experiential channels.
  • Comfort using data to prioritize, and the discipline to deliver high-quality work with limited resources.
  • Experience in sports, entertainment, nonprofit, or a mission-driven consumer brand.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with the Olympic and Paralympic movement or a professional sports property.
  • Content experience supporting fundraising or sponsorship revenue.
  • Familiarity with endurance or participation-based sport.

Responsibilities

  • Own our brands, leading positioning, voice, and expression for USA TRI, USA Triathlon, and USA Triathlon Foundation brands, ensuring they communicate effectively and work together to connect elite athletes to grassroots participation and enable philanthropic giving.
  • Build the content engine by designing and implementing the strategy, editorial calendar, production workflow, and standards for consistent, high-volume publishing across social, video, digital, and editorial channels.
  • Run the athlete story pipeline, identifying, prioritizing, and developing a continuously replenished pipeline of narratives from elite, development, junior, and age group athletes.
  • Grow fandom and audience by driving organic growth of owned audiences and engagement that sustains between major events, collaborating with Growth Marketing to convert attention into membership and participation.
  • Fuel revenue by creating storytelling that supports the USA Triathlon Foundation and Elevate28 campaign, developing content programs for corporate partners, and crafting stories that inspire connection to and engagement with organizational products and programs.
  • Raise the team's performance by leading and coaching a team of three, setting clear expectations and high standards for quality and velocity, and managing the budget, agencies, and freelancers to extend capacity.
  • Navigate the rules and guidelines set by the USOPC, IOC, and IPC regarding brand and athlete marketing, including Rule 40.
