About The Position

Deepgram is seeking a Director of Brand Strategy & Narrative to define the company's brand strategy, narrative, and verbal identity. This role involves shaping company positioning, product naming, copy, executive communications, and public-facing arguments. The position requires both strategic leadership and exceptional writing skills, focusing on articulating the importance of voice as an interface and Deepgram's role in a voice-first future. The Director will translate strategy into memorable language, personally write high-impact content, and lead a writing team within an integrated studio model. This is a remote-first role in a fast-paced company, requiring comfort with ambiguity and rapid change.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in writing, narrative development, and brand strategy.
  • At least four years of experience leading people and creative work.
  • Exceptional writing ability across various formats, including strategic keynotes, manifestos, headlines, product copy, and button labels.
  • A portfolio demonstrating brand narrative, positioning, naming, and brand architecture work that has been shipped.
  • Direct experience building portfolio and naming systems.
  • Strong creative leadership skills with a focus on developing writers and improving team output, while also being an exceptional individual craftsperson.
  • Technical fluency and genuine curiosity, with the ability to understand and translate complex technical concepts into accessible language.
  • Experience working in an in-house or agency studio model where writers and designers collaborate.
  • Executive presence and experience shaping communications for founders and senior leaders.
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills and the ability to gain support for ideas from various stakeholders.
  • Excellent creative judgment with the ability to articulate the effectiveness of ideas and work.
  • Comfort operating through ambiguity and rapid change in a fast-moving company undergoing significant brand evolution.
  • Active use of AI in writing, research, ideation, or creative development.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience branding technical, developer-focused, or AI products, making complex technology feel clear and human.
  • Experience leading external brand or creative agencies through naming, positioning, or narrative engagements.
  • A background in speechwriting, editorial, journalism, or another discipline grounded in rigorous storytelling.

Responsibilities

  • Define and evolve brand strategy and narrative, including the argument for voice as a preferred interface and Deepgram's role in a voice-first future.
  • Build a cohesive company and product positioning strategy.
  • Translate technical differentiation and category leadership into clear, memorable language.
  • Define brand architecture, organizing the portfolio of offerings.
  • Lead naming initiatives from strategy to legal clearance.
  • Establish Deepgram's verbal identity, including voice, tone, lexicon, and language principles, and create practical guidelines.
  • Personally write and shape high-impact content such as manifestos, launch narratives, hero pages, keynotes, and other flagship brand moments.
  • Partner with founders and senior leaders to shape executive narratives and public communications.
  • Define thought leadership and content strategy, determining what Deepgram publishes, where it appears, and how it advances the company narrative.
  • Build, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of writers, setting priorities, giving feedback, and developing talent.
  • Lead copy reviews to strengthen work and raise the level of craft across internal teams, agencies, freelancers, and contract writers.
  • Collaborate with design, web, product, demand generation, developer relations, communications, legal, and other teams to ensure consistent brand narrative execution.
  • Actively use AI tools in writing and strategy work, and encourage the team to explore AI for creative development, quality, and speed.
